Problems with Dash Worx
« on: October 23, 2011 - 03:05:08 PM »
Just wanted to post my problems getting an ammeter-voltmeter conversion done with Dash Worx.

I had sent them my gauge on July 20th...now three months later, phone calls and emails have gone unanswered and no word on a completion date.  In fact, the voicemail goees to an account that is full and no longer accepting messages.

Do not use them.

Hummm thats weird? Sorry to hear that. I met them at Carlisle and they would do the conversion right there if you had the gauge with you. Looked like a family run business to me, seemed nice enough? I'm kinda surprised to hear this?  I guess you never know?

Thats crap. Sorry to hear about the mess your in.  I had them convert my amp gauge to volt gauge, and bought the solid state voltage limiter.  The problem I have is the gauges all "hunt"  with the needles of volt, temp and fuel gauges moving together gradually up and down.  Almost a 1/4 tank of fuel difference between high and low of the needle swing.
I am planning on switching back to an OEM voltage limiter to see if there is a difference.

I had a similar problem as you, but with the dash pad.

If you need a replacement amp gauge I believe I have one of the newer 72-74 style.  I will give it to you for free if you plan to use it (not for resale).  Let me know, send a pm if interested.

YOU SENT YOUR IN RIGHT AROUND THE TIME SCOTT WAS IN THE PROCESS OF BUYING THE BUSINESS FROM GREG.  I HAD A SET OF B-BODY GAUGES IN AT THE SAME TIME, AND THEY TOOK ABOUT 3 MONTHS.  THAT WAS FINE WITH ME.  I NEVER HAD A PROBLEM GETTING IN TOUCH WITH SCOTT OR AMANDA.  I'D SAY JUST KEEP CALLING.

Update:  I never did hear back from anyone.  I eventually sent my instrument cluster in to Redline Gauge Works and they did a nice job with a quick turnaround (about 2 weeks total).  The voltmeter gauge looks bone stock and I am very happy with the results.

I do have the RTE/Dash Worx solid state limiter in my cluster and haven't had the 'hunting' problem. (crosses fingers)

Sounds like your (new) voltage reg is faulty. What you are describing sounds reminiscent of the the old bi-metallic strip limiter.

Has anyone got any information on them recently? I ordered a bunch of parts mid-February but haven't heard anything (the store and eBay). No replies to any emails.

Also if someone can give me some information on where else to get similar parts that would be great (clock, gauge needle paint, gauge plastics, knobs, nuts etc).

I saw this on Facebook:

RTE sold Dash-Worx to Scott and Amanda Sutton on April of 2011. As of June 2012 our understanding is that Dash-worx is closed down. More info on Solid state dash limiters

Forget Dash Worx! Also known as Real Time Engineering.
They never reply to e-mails or phone calls.

I finally found out after investigating for over 2 weeks; 2 sources that'll sell the electronic tach & clock quartz conversion. You don't have to send in your guage cluster to either one listed below and wait till hell freezes over with a huge Invoice due when completed.

Premium Dash Decals: (613) 532-2587
Sells the electronic tach conversion. $85.00

Instrument Services Inc. sells the Quartz Clock conversion kit.

Thanks guys. I was refunded by Paypal for all of the purchases and sourced everything from various sources - go there in the end.

It's weird, RTE or dash-worx sell stuff on eBay still and some people are leaving positive feedback while others simply don't get their parts and don't get a response. Last time I looked their feedback had dropped to 80% from near perfect.

Thanks for finding those sources, I've been curious where to buy the kits outright ever since Dash Worx went belly up.
