Gumby- I think all of the complaints you are referring to are on on the auto to manual trans conversions from kiesler, and not the auto overdrive which is what this thread is about
Ya that was my thoughts as well. I have yet to find a single complaint reguarding the Auto OD set up. It's always with the 5 speed manuals, seems to me Tremec had a design issue that needs a revision? :dunno:
Thanks for looking out for me though Gumby!  :2thumbs: It is a lot of cash but if I piece it all together my self I'm not going to save much, and if there is an issue if I pieced together my own kit the different manufacturers would just blame each others product as the fault.
The GM 4L65E is what they use, I have one in my Suburban and it failed and cost me $2700. The tranny shop showed me why it failed and it the 3rd and 4th gear clutch packs that GM used were junk. The aftermarket kits ( Raybestos) solved the problem , or thats what I'm told anyhow. It's well known about those bad clutch packs from GM common issue that GM won't recall. Go figure huh?

Make sure that you mock up your starter before you install also. I don't know what version it was, but some have had issues.

Ya I noticed that on the ultrabell set up on 518 OD set ups. I'll make sure to check that out though!  :2thumbs:

Does the Kslr auto/od tranny sit lower to the ground than a standard 727 (with the standard depth stock oil pan)?  If yes, how much lower?  My chally sits very low already.  I've considered an O/D, maybe swap to a 5-speed Passon unit.  I admire the Kslr auto o/d as a very good swap someday, especially useful for hi-speed road courses.  AND, as someone said, the Kslr GM trans is a little lighter than a 727???... everything included (computor, etc)?  Lighter mass weight is attractive to me for improved handling.

Hey Guys, no real news here yet.  I have been on a little vacation this past week, and was hoping to have some news in my email box when I got home.  But nuthin.  I am really waiting for my engine builder to quit screwing around.  I went out to his shop the day before I left, and he was boring cylinders, and had one head to port the exhaust side only, and had to assemble everything.  I left him Keislers info so that he could call down or fax the dyno sheet after he ran the motor, which was supposed to be early last week.  I am going to call him a little later to find out if he got it done.  Keisler needs the dyno printout to calibrate the shift controller, so things are at a good start point when I get the car rolling, and then I can add a new program as I need in the future.  I will get back to all wondering (I know there are at least a few of you) when I hear from my builder, and then Keisler.  I will have time yet this week.  Im still nervous, but yet excited.  I hope things happen soon.    J

  any news yet?

So...... this is what I found out today from Keisler.  It took a good part of the day to get them to call me back, but they did.  Bill was a great help.  Everything is there, but we found out that I have a 8 bolt hole crank like a hemi, instead of the 6 bolt hole crank like the other big blocks.  This means they have to get a different flywheel.  It sounds like they don't use the chrysler flex plate, but instead use the chev flywheel.  No starter teeth on the converter. A chrysler mini starter will still work.  I got a bit confused with the torque converter.  I am getting a 2000 to 2400 stall at 300-500 ft.lbs., with total rating at 650 ft.lbs.  It sounds like the computer should be able to tune the trans and converter for shift points and lock-up.  I guess I can even shut off the lock up.  I am not savvy about transmissions, so does this info sound right?  I just listed my engine specs and ratings in the big block section.  Let me know if I am getting the right stall range on my converter.  I will find out monday when the flywheel will be in, and estimated delivery.  Looks like things are finally moving along.

How big is your cam?

2000-2400 may be too tight if you have a somewhat radical camshaft.

sorry I don't know how to make a link, but I posted my engine specs and hp. and torque vs rpm values in the big block section today.  Its a big cam, but not radical, especially with a stroker.  I don't know what rev range I want my converter to operate at since my engine makes good power and torque very low in the rev range.  What is a good street range?  I don't plan to do any drag racing, but plan to rip up the curvy back roads around here.  Maybe a little autocross too.  I am doing major suspension and brake mods too.

I have no idea if the GM tranny sits lower or higher?  :clueless: Good question though! I also looked at the 4L80 but first gear ratio sucks and its bigger and would require tranny tunnel mods.

Speaking of gear ratios, what rear gear would work with this trans?  I am planning to keep my 8.75 and its 3:23 gears.  Rebuilt of course.  I am hoping with the torque that my motor is putting out, I shouldn't have a hard time getting off the line.  It may even help to keep the tires from spinning too easy.  I want it to be in its power and gear ratio at about 30mph to 120mph with a top speed of around 140.  This should make it great on the highway too.  Does it sound like I'm in the right range?

Did you see this program from Keisler?
http://www.keislerauto.com/speed_analyzers.php?sa=mopar_auto
I just ordered a new Dana with 3:54 ratio and with 295/60/15 tires the OD and first gear of the OD tranny it's like having 4.43 rear gears and at 2000RPM I'll be doing about 64 MPH
with your 3:23 and the same tires its like having a 4:03 rear end and at 2000 RPM'S your be doing about 70 MPH
If you bump up the cruizing RPM's to 3500 with your 3:23 gear you will be doing 123 MPH  sweet huh! I think with your motor your rear gear is perfect!
The only question is will your monster of a motor kill the 8 3/4?

I am planning on running a 18" rim with a 295 tire.  I haven't decided on side wall yet.  I suppose it will depend on which tire manufacturer I choose.  I want the smaller side wall for better cornering handling.   But I know I have to keep the overall height of the tire around 26-27 inches.

My plan to use the 8 3/4 is based on weight.  I want to keep the sprung weight down so the suspension works easier.  i won't be doing high RPM drag launches, and it won't ever wear a set of slicks.  I figure the tires will spin up before I really start to torture the rear!!  I question if I should put in a stronger set of axles when I get it rebuilt, or see it they fail first before I spend the extra $$$.  New bearings and a new sure grip are in the plan right now.

A lot of guys are saying my 3:23 is WAY to tall.  I don't really know why.  It works on the street great right now.  I actually prefer it to the 3:55 I had in my small block challenger.  It can still burn the tires off with a stock 440 from a stand still, and drives real nice on the highway.  Is this just old skool drag racer thinking?  I even tell them I am putting in a 4 speed auto.  Then they say it is way too tall for the OD.   I think I have this reasonably thought out, but the opinion stays the same in general.  I really don't think I will change my mind about it either.

To bad we don't live closer, I'll be removing an 8 3/4  3:55 sure grip 489 case rear end when I get the Dana. I too thought about the extra weight of the Dana. I'm a bit anal with adding weight to my car too. I'm planning on using composite leaf springs to offset the weight of the Dana and then some. After asking about if the 8 3/4 will live behind my 451 it seems pretty split.Mine too will most likely never see slicks either. I guess in the end it went for the Dana for piece of mind. I hate that little nagging wince when I hammer on the car, worrying "what if"  That and I figured  I can offset some of the cost and still get something for the rear end now....still in one piece.
Your engine has about 80-90 more HP than mine and about 20-30 FT-lbs more tq than mine so your wouldn't need as much gear. Like you said it's gonna be a street car not a drag car. Mine too. With both our combo's traction WILL be an issue! Over kill for a street car power wise.... but hey that's what it's all about!  :naughty:
Ya gotta figure your adding 2X the HP and TQ these cars came with stock!  :grinyes:
