Non 70 or 71 e bodies, is having one that bad?

Nothing wrong with them of cource ! Some people prefer them! My first car ever was a 73 Challenger... lots of good memories with that car!

IMo, '72-'74 E-bodies are largly disliked because of the Gov. mandated, 5MPH bumpers that stick out from the car. Once tucked back up next to the car, fillers removed, those "Plymouth Horizon"(Ever really looked at 'em, they look like the same exact piece) Side markers sticking out either recessed or removed in favor of the '70-'71 units. Once all the '72-'74 stuff is undone, they aren't bad...I have a 1976 Ford Maverick that I had to convert back to 1970 as well because of this...

As a proud owner of an 74 challenger. I am not into the whole car show matching numbers dog and pony show. for me it is seeing an E body, 70-74 that someone took the time to save from the crusher. put thier sweat and time and money in to to make it something special to them.

The 5 mph bumpers are 73 & 74.  The side markers were the same as Horizon.  They were also used on the front fenders of the truck and several other cars.  Chrysler was making one part fit all so they could keep their heads above water.  Those were the Iacoca years.  There is nothing wrong with the 72-74's.  The type of performance was changed in these cars.  The 74 was probably the best built Ebody.  They had reinforcements in the roofs and in a few other places.  The original intent of the muscle car is best displayed in the earlier years.  This is why the earlier years will always have the highest value and demand.

There was a stigma around the post '71's back in the day due to the emissions and horsepower drop.

The differences are all very blurry to me these days.

Is a 72+ E Body as desirable as the 70 or 71? No. (Although I will say that the front and rear ends on 71 Challengers aren't any more attractive IMHO) Are they still better looking cars than most anything else from the muscle car era? I think so. Do they still pull more attention than a Mustang, Chevelle, Camaro, etc? Definitely.

The simple fact is that E Bodies are few and far between no matter the year. I will see twenty 69 Camaros or late 60s Mustangs / Chevelles for every Challenger / Cuda that I see.

I can't go for a 6 pack of beer in my 73 without someone talking to me about my car. Chicks love it, too. Bonus! ;-)

I'm setting mine up as a "factory" 440 Six-Pack / 4-speed so the 72+ lack of power is a non issue for me. At that point, anybody who would look down on my car simply for being a 73 is being a snob and I don't care what they think. :-)

I could care less what year the e-body is . . they are all cool as hell!

Seems almost everyone wants a `70 or `71 Hemi e-body but any e-body attracts attention at any show/cruise or on the street.There are so few of them compared to all the Mustangs and Camaros and even b or a body Mopars, so ya even the `72-74s are cool.

I think they are all cool and would own any year. I have to say I'm partial to 70-71 Challengers and AAR and 71 Cudas.

It's all about the look to me. I just prefer the look of the 71... but obviously I preferred some of the styling of the AAR too. hah

Some cars with the right combo can make a "bad" year look really good.
