Need some idea's for B/RB valve covers?
« on: October 29, 2011 - 07:59:38 PM »
Ok I'm building a 451" and am looking for some idea's for valve covers. I bought the plain Indy die cast aluminum valve covers. The are just ..."OK"  they don't really "do it" for me? I'm kinda getting tired of the Mopar Performance offerings ? The fabricated aluminum ones are just " OK" too?
I need something that will clear roller rockers.
Post up some pictures if you have any idea's?

my plan is to make them look a bit beefier.  I will use a chunck of round bar and mill them from that.  The lip that wraps around the head will be the startingpoint to go straight up and they will have a flat top. With the bolts inside and the outside of the covers straight they should look prety bold imo...  I want to make a drawing when the motor is in to make sure they will fit in with the brake booster.

My buddy just got a custom set for his ford! it's a 2 piecs VC a small portion of the bottom side of the VC stays on the head the whole way around and he can just remove the top so no oil runs off onto the headers etc and can still set lash easy! (just a thought)

pretty good plan  :2thumbs:

Hey Brad, are you planning to paint anything on the engine ?
I have seen a set of Mopar valve covers with the Mopar logo and fins cut off with a mill, they were then painted engine color (Red) and inded up looking like a really smooth set of steal covers but taller, they looked so smooth and sweet, just an idea i thought i would share with you too, not sure what your plans are with engine colors. :dunno:

Hey Brad,

These are not exactly what i was saying but they are close. You would finish sand so there is no defined line from top to side, just totally smooth, i would paint them smooth the same as the block for a really clean look, i will be doing this treatment and painting my stealth heads also i am thinking.

Kenny.

Here is another set that are made of billet, they are not cheap and can be ordered in a smooth look or with anything you want engraved on them. http://ftainnovations.com/BilletProducts.aspx

WAAY COOL!   these are exact copies of the image in my head LOL...    Kenny, have you see any of these mounted in an e-body with powerbrakes? I haven`t made them yet because I wondered if they will clear the factory brake booster   :clueless:

Thats a cool idea, but I bet its expensive.

Any fabbed cover with a flat top is open to possibilities of paint, decals, logos, or badging. How about a inexpensive fab set from Mancini with R/T or Challenger badges on them?

I would paint the alum heads with something , raw alum doesn't look good for long

Ya I was thinking that too. does ordinary engine paint stick to aluminum?
