Hey Brad,

These are not exactly what i was saying but they are close. You would finish sand so there is no defined line from top to side, just totally smooth, i would paint them smooth the same as the block for a really clean look, i will be doing this treatment and painting my stealth heads also i am thinking.

Kenny.
That looks sweet! I like it!

Here is another set that are made of billet, they are not cheap and can be ordered in a smooth look or with anything you want engraved on them. http://ftainnovations.com/BilletProducts.aspx

Wow$ 900 for valve covers :22yikes: :faint:
I like the first one you posted best  :2thumbs:

Ya I was thinking that too. does ordinary engine paint stick to aluminum?

Yes.  You could put a clear coat on the alum valve covers if you wanted to keep the look though.

I saw the price also and could not believe it, was not sure how much you wanted to spend, but i am sure that a solid billet block would not be cheap to buy in that size times two anyway, then the machine work involved. I was even thinking that a set of Mopar covers with just the fins removed and the Pentastar and wording Mopar Performance left on the cover would look alright, i have not seen this done before though. Once you have machined the surface smooth and sanded the roundness back alone the top edge of the Mopar covers, you could do a light bead blast to get that semi rough cast texture and then coat it with a heat proof clear coat to stop discoloration, i am sure that VHT paints do a heat proof clear coat in a pressure pack spray can. This would work on your cylinder heads also. :2thumbs:

Thanks for the tip on VHT   I never knew clear was available....but then again I've never had a need for it.

Here's suggstions for you...
Start with valve covers having a flat top, make a new decoration cover on top of this.
You can for example hide the HT-leads with this decoration cover.
You can even intergrate plexiglas with LED similar to what sometimes seen on truck mudflaps.
See enclosed links

Ohh well, just an idea.....

This stuff says it can handle up to 550deg.   :dunno:

Never had any trouble with colored stuff that says it can handle that temp.

I've used rallye wheel argent silver to paint intake manifolds. Since it has a very fine metallic to it, it looks a lot like "as cast" aluminum. I'd imagine on a smooth valve cover or cylinder head, it would look real similar in finish to a road wheel.  Since brakes generate a fair amount of heat, which in turns transfers to the wheel, it will withstand some pretty high temps. However, I've got to say I've never seen any engine spray paint that will stand up to year after year of heated intake crossover air. They all eventually turn brown.

I still think a basic flat top valve cover with the Challenger or R/T badge on it would be easy to do, yet different enough to catch attention.

How about fabricated alloy covers (like the ones I have from 440 source, very nicely made) with the welds ground smooth.
Get them powder coated black with a crinkle finish and they would look fantastic!
The 440 source fabricated covers are quite a lot larger than other styles, and they look great, really add some visual beefiness to the motor.

The black should look good with the bare alloy heads and the orange motor.
I can do some quick photochops if you like...   I did a bunch of my engine bay.

You could mount the PCv into the valley cover

Ya I wondered about that. My 455 Buick had it there. I would think it would need some sort of baffle so it doesn't suck oil?
So far I like Hemiken's idea the best with the Mopar performance valve covers. I've been " hunting " for a pair to try it out on. I'm concerned about the T&D rockers , clearance wise though?
Thanks everyone for all the idea's...keep em coming!  :2thumbs:

They look nice. Are you happy with them? Aaron Beck also used the 440 source covers.
