Possible to get a replacment fender tag?
« on: October 30, 2011 - 03:18:11 AM »
Does anybody know if it is possible to get a new fender tag or is there a way to even locate the old info? When I got my Challenger last year the fender tag was missing, I do have the original dash and VIN on dash, in case that would help me somehow. I have always wanted to know all the info, such as interior, options, even the original color is sort of a mystery to me.

From what I understand, yes, it is possible to get a new fender tag made.

However, it requires the original broadcast sheet to do it. (I believe that is the only record, aside from the fender tag, of any given car's original options.) The broadcast sheet is usually located under one of the seat cushions. Tucked in between the foam and springs. Mine was either under the drivers seat or one of the rears. Can't remember which. If you can find that, and it's intact, all your questions will be answered. You could also get that new tag made.

Good luck!

Broadcast sheet is everything.  That is the only way for you to know what was on the car.

If you replace the fender tag, the guru's will know it is a replacement.

It is very hard to get all the font's the same as the originals.

The broadcast sheet could be in many places but probably in the seats.

Could be in headliner, behind glove box, up in dash, under carpet, under package tray, even heard of one on top of the gas tank between the asphalt sheet and trunk.

good luck finding your broadcast sheet!!

If you can find your sheet, I'm sure this place can help.  Or try to track down previous owners.

Dang, I might be screwed then. When i purchased my car it was gutted, no seats, carpet, headliner, etc. Mostly metal and rubber insulation for wires, glass, and my dash. only hope would be ontop of the gas tank i guess, but i dont have high hopes. what does broadcast sheet look like?

The colors are faded on this sheet.  Gives you the idea though.

I doubt it will be above the gas tank.  Only heard of that twice since I got into mopars.

Good luck!

This will probably cause some purists to shudder but since a new fender tag can be made, I would reverse the process.  Write down what options your car has on it, find the correct number for that option and write it in the appropriate blank that the tag reproducer will need.  Unless the car has been acid dipped or media blasted you should be able to determine the original color of the car by looking under the door hinges or under the carpet and or the back seat under the package tray.  If the car has been acid dipped or media blasted and you are completely at a loss as to the original color of the car or upholstery pick a favorite!
