How many hours to tear down a Motor for a pro?

Taking my 360 to a pro engine shop. How many hours would it take to strip it down to a bare block? I will be delivering the motor out of the car to the shop. Also, how many hours to remove an engine from my car, if I was a pro?

I'd say 2-3 hours to inspect and tear it down. 3-4 to remove if from the car?

1-2 to tear it down.
1 hour to pull the motor if you know what/where everything is.

It depends.  How much damage was done to the block when they failed.  If you just spun a bearing, then the damage should be minimal.

Don't forget about 1 or 2 hours to remove all of the accessory components
on the engine. No sense in paying the shop to take off water pump manifolds
and probably most of the sheetmetal. And drain the oil either way. Not
draining the oil is the surest way to pizz off the machine shop.lol

Here lies the big mistake , tearing an engine down quickly is easy but you can learn a lot from wear patterns inside a engine so often taking a little more time can help , for example looking at the main brgs if 1 or two are worn one one side the block mayhave shifted & needs an align bore . a lot can be learned from careful teardown

    That's why I said  2-3 hours.

Nice, thanks for the good advice as always. The motor should be pulled minus componets on Monday. Hopefully by Friday we'll understand what happened. One big concern for me was that the upper half was sounding like a diesel right before I turned the motor off. Hopefully, nothing too bad happened.

First thing is pull off the valve covers and check out the valvetrain. Look for loose rocker arms, stuck valves etc... Good luck , here's hoping it's something easy, and cheap?

a lot can be learned from careful teardown

These are words of wisdom.
When you go back together its the same idea.  The short block/engine will be put together and disassembled several times to fit check everything....then finally be assembled for real one last time.   
A good book is Smokey Yunick's "Power Secrets".

I have seen engines fail just because the rocker shafts were over torqued , it ovaled the shaft & caused the rockers to sieze on the shaft & hold the valve open causing the piston to brak the head off the valve which windowed the block & broke the piston , take off the intake & carb & start again

it was sounding like a diesel because it was not getting any oil pressure.

You should find out why when you take it apart.

If you have a flat tappet cam, be sure to keep the lifters in order so you can put them back on the right cam lobes if there is nothing wrong with them or the cam.

 It was weird when it was dieseling. The oil pressure gauge was still showing 30 psi. Any clues?

If it was running and your tearing it down for a rebuild, I'd say a couple of hours. If you have issues and potential damage, it may take twice as long to backtrack and identify the various damage and cause/effect of each failure.
