Another noob from Mass
« on: November 04, 2011 - 12:34:40 PM »
Hi all! Yes, another newbie from Massachusetts (Brookline to be exact), but compared to drambo136 I'm a real noob. Without the intent to bore you all, a short summary about me:
I invaded this country from Switzerland half a year ago and the plan is to stay here for a couple of years and then go back to Switzerland. I knew I had to get my hands on a Challenger while I'm here, and last week I found the perfect match and bought a 70 Challenger RT/SE 383 from a nice guy in Texas. It's not yet here, will be another 2 weeks and I can barely wait, but as I came through this website a couple of times when I did my search I thought now is the time to register.  :woohoo:

The Chally is (or rather: seems to be) in good shape and I intend to keep her as original as possible; it is my only car but I don't need a daily driver, so don't worry I won't drive her to death in the Boston winter. :) I'm not a mechanic and believe it or not, she is my first car (and I'm 30 already!), so I'm very open to suggestions and tips while I try to learn as much as possible about this beauty. Would also be nice to meet people from around Boston!

Attached a first pic, more once she gets here!
(for those who recognize the pic, she was on ebay)

Thanks!
Pascal

Welcome to the site. Nice car! Watch out for the traffic in Boston and install an alarm/immobilizer so you can keep it long enough to take it home.

I am indeed thinking about an immobilizer/circuit breaker, will open a new thread about that some day. At least the garage I keep it in should be very safe, no way you can trailer it out of there  :grinno:

Hi Pascal!  Welcome!

I work almost in Brookline,  on Commonwealth Ave, diagonally across from the Shaw's market near Boston University.  Years ago I used to work on Beacon Street.  We have our monthly meetings at the Holiday Inn on Beacon Street.  That's a nice Challenger you bought!

Have you gone to the Lars Anderson Museum of Transportation?  I've lived in the area all my life but have never gone there but I hear it's great.  :grinyes:

Yeah, watch out driving that car around here.  Boston drivers aren't exactly know for their driving skills or manners!  Those little bumplers don't hold up well!  :22yikes:

Feel free to ask lots of questions, lots of nice people here!  :grinyes:

Are you here for school?  Only 2 years?  :clueless:

Thanks! I sure hope she's not only pretty on the pics. Just read your website and it's funny, my car-story is very similar, the guy who sold it to me also had it for 2 years after buying it from the original owner.  :)
Let me see, diagonally across Shaw's... you work at the perfume corner? ;D Or rather Allston Auto Tops. ;) Oh but that's cool, I live on Beacon Street close to Coolidge Corner. What kind of meetings are there at the Holiday Inn, from members of this site?

I'm here as a research fellow, the current plan is to stay for another 3 years; no fixed plans after that so who knows what happens. And don't worry about the questions, these will come for sure!  :grinyes:

No, not at the perfume corner.  :roflsmiley:  But it does smell nice in my office.  :naughty:  I work at in a building that says something like Bob Smith's Wilderness house.  They are long gone, I work in a home health agency, I'm a nurse and I work with a bunch of pretty Russian nurses.  They smell nice!!!  The monthly meetings are team meeting for my work, for announcements and such.  We used to have the meetings at out location on Comm. Ave. but the room got too small.

Allston Auto Tops and the audio place nxt to it has some nice cars every so often.  Super 88 has a nice eatery there.  The BU students have some decent cars.  Saw a Ferrari 355 vert last week.  A couple of weeks ago I was on a back street near Kenmore Square and at the intersection was not 1 but 2 white Skyline GT-Rs amoung a bunch of Mercedes and Audis.  These kids have nice cars!  It's not like California or Florida where those types of cars are an everyday occurrence.

Where are you doing research?  My sister does cancer research in a lab near Boston Medical center.

Keep us updated when you get your car!

Oh that's cool! Don't tease me with Russian nurses while my girlfriend is on another continent!  :D

I work at Children's Hospital, but don't worry about your kids, I'm in informatics, safely stored away from human beings.  ;D :chatting:

And I also have yet to go to the Lars Anderson Museum, I heard good things about it. I will post pictures as soon as the car is here, no fixed date yet, aaargh  :stomp:

Oh, I haven't yet been up to Maine, I definitely want to change this once the car is here -- which it will be Saturday, it's on the trailer on the way here and I'm even more  :jumping:

Functional Genomics is a great field, I did my PhD in Proteomics - not quite the same but still close.  8)
