Wow, pretty horrible site.  The car is so mangled.

I wonder if he went into the pole sideways?  Wonder if there's a curve in the road? The nose of the car is relatively intact and if the yellow covers are body parts, I wonder if the pole went through where the doors/passenger was.

Very sad indeed, glad there were no other occupants inside.

Talked to my State Troopy friend. He ate the pole with the impact being drivers door/rear fender.  Car was in half before it pasted the other pole.
I'm pretty sure that he came out of a lazy turn - not lazy at his speed though... Wide highway about 60mph there.
Didn't ask about body parts.  But he was ejected and pronounced at the scene.

This is what I've been saying for years. I want to make sure I don't take anyone else with me, but how many people are lucky enough to die doing something they love? Most people go drooling on their pillows. I'd take this any day.

I would say that either he was not wearing seat belts or they were not installed properly. For many years I was an insurance adjuster and handled hundreds of accidents similar to this and a lot of them were survivable, believe it or not. Almost every loss that I handled where there was a fatality, most usually the victims were not wearing seat belts.  It's a shame to have a roll bar and not have installed race harnesses. The outcome might have been different. I've been racing my 71 Barracuda in street radial class. I installed a roll bar with door bars and installed harnesses as well. I just won't take any chances when driving a car in excess of a hundred mph.

As an insurance adjuster, what's your take on roll bars and harness simply for safety?

It's obviously safer, but I've heard if your car has those items, you freak out the insurance company since they think you're going to race the car. But in lieu of airbags and 40 years of vehicle safety design, a decent cage and better belts seems like something they should encourage.

The video shows a roll bar and harness were in the car.Wether he was wearing them or not  but sometimes even those items won`t save you.

On another note, that stretch of roadway is THE place in the immediate area to mash it.  Even to get a little sideways.  Not used for racing though, as it is too wide-open for the PoPo to run radar.  There are several areas within less than three miles for those types of activities. And our local Dragway is only 15 miles from where he crashed.
Read an article aways back about 'famous' areas in the USA for cruisin'/street racin' from back in the day.  This County was included in the list as it had a reputation.  The area is synonymous with MOPAR enthusiasum due to the Newark Plant was right up the road and the GM plant about 10 miles north.
See the County was farmland until Reaganomics. The open land made for a better environment for go-fast fun.  Cars usually ended up in a field.  So people about 40 and up still mash it to go fast and get a little sideways... This guy was 65 years old.  I guarantee that I know him (ebody) and that he's been doing the same think in the same area for decades.
So some of the Old Boys [and I] are a bit melancholy about this fatile crash.  Hell, one of my friends (older and still living) used to cut down trees with his old tanks.  His nickname became Lumber-Jack.
 
{Discloser: Any kids reading this should avoid such activities as shared above.}  because you see other guys doing it combined with your driving experience being front/all wheel drive vehicles for the most part.  You simply don't have the skills/experience and will most likely take someone out too.
