Just comparing the number of members of this forum vs how many ebodies might be out there.

The world of currently active and participating members here versus total ebodies out there is very small.
That said, I would be surprised if more than 25% of the produced ebodies still exist. Many of those are not driveable.
I'm sure this topic has been discussed before (what hasnt in the last 10 years here!).
Maybe another poll as to what peoples opinions on the number left are?

I guess my question wasn't clear enough;  Tommyg you read my thoughts.  I have probably seen maybe a half dozen ebodies in our area in 10 years.  All of these were at car shows, none on the road.   So I was just wondering how far the production numbers have dwindled.

and you will never see many of those that still exist because they are holed up in garages, body shops or collections, or barns

In the early 70s, I'm sure in most places you could see an ebody pretty regularly on the road. Maybe every day you might run past one or two. Today, I can drive around my town for months without seeing another. Back then they were daily drivers. Today, theere are not only a lot fewer of them, virtually none are daily drivers.
With rust, accidents, engine failures etc., I would bet the bank that half of them didnt survive their first ten years, much less 40.

Out here in the land of Imports, I'm lucky to see a few old Mopars of any type.
Seems alot more old GM and Fords around.

my guess is 35-40% in dry climats.  These cars were built to last maybe 7 years. Most every type of car hits a point in its life where there`s virtually no value in them. That`s where most die.  Overall I`d be surprised if more than 25% made it through, as Tommy stated.

Enjoy them while you can.  Every year there are less and less of them.  Some are destroyed in accidents, tornados, and floods.  Others are parted out.  In the grand scheme of things, most if not all of them will be gone.  Companies who make replacement parts will go out of buisiness...parts will dry up and the cars will sit idle.  Ownership will change hands and eventually the cars will be scrapped.  If you have the means, buy a lot of extra parts and store them incase you need them some day.  Not only the main body parts but the smaller items that you don't think about.(drums, rotors, brake pads/shoes, bushings exc...)

I don't think I've seen a challenger on the road since the 80s.  I've seen a few at shows, but never any out cruising.  Of course Mopars in general seem rare around here.  Mustangs and Camaros are numerous.

When these cars were ten years old you could buy them pretty cheap, at 20 if you could find one they were even cheaper and a lot rustier.  Then at about 25 years they began to appreciate but by then thousands of them had been crushed, junked, cut up, or wrecked beyond repair.

I saw a red 1970 Chally 'vert about two weeks ago at Wally World, one that I had never seen before in our little town of 10,000.  I should have walked out and taken a good look at it right then but I figured I was only going to be inside about 5 minutes.  Sure enough when I came out it was gone.
