Back in the 70's and 80's, Challengers were not what you'd call "abundant" in the wrecking yards around here.  We had to make several trips all the way down to LA just to find spare parts.  AD's Last Stop in Sun Valley was a favorite.  A Mopars Only establishment with cars stacked 4 high. Just summon the attendant on the fork lift and he'd bring down the one you want.

I once found a nice 70 in a small junkyard nearby though.  The owner said take what you want cause it's going to the crusher next week. Came back the next day with tools and spent an afternoon under the shade of an Oak tree removing precious heirlooms from the old girl. I really did feel bad about it but at the time I didn't have the wherewithal to house another car.

Another question to ponder is:

How many of the E bodies remaining were sold and went overseas.

10-15% could be a realistic amount.

Hmmmmm       I think total production from '70 to 74 was something along the order of 165,000 challengers and 115,000 Cudas - or about 280,000 in total.    A 10% survival rate is 28,000.......  which seems a bit high to me.....

10-15% could be a realistic amount. Of the 35-40% remaining.

:iagree: Somewhere in-between 35 and 40%

These are the e-body's within 30 mile around Glen Burnie , Maryland.
There are a few more Challengers, AAR's, Cuda's I do not have pic's and MEKs Challenger which I have never seen on the road.

Don't forget mine!

Its funny, i take mine out every once in a while, but i NEVER see any other old cars on the road when i am in it nor do I see many any other time. Mopars don't seem to be around here much, with the exception of the ones in my family and the ones pictured above.  :dunno:

I'm going with a 5% survival rate.

I'm sure many have crashed and burned in every imaginable type of accident, good and bad. Met the Crusher.

I hate to admit it but I know who's crushed at least 3 of them in the last 5 years. But they were all rusty piles of .... anyway. And yes valuable parts were removed! In my area ( maybe a 25 mile radius) I know of 5 (4 Chally's 1 Cuda).  Granted there is probly a few stashed around here that I dont know of (YET). In these parts things got rotten really quick!!!! I saw MOPES that were rustier than my GTX 20 years ago already around here (at that time they werent worth $hit, so I know there's a high attrition rate. I'd guess less than 5 thousand cars.......
70 Chally R/T Convertible- Yes she's really got a HEMI, no she's not a Charger!

Around the Boston area I think in like the past 10 years I've seen 3 actually driving around, not in driveways or shows, 1 white '70 Challenger, a Plum Crazy '70 Cuda and a '71 Cuda convertible (Actually was originally a Barracuda.).

You just don't see as many Mopars in general driving around here.  Mostly GM/Ford stuff.  '60's Mustangs, a Chevelle here and there, some Camaros but not a lot of muscle cars in general.
1972 Dodge Challenger Rallye 340, AT, Code TB3=Super Blue, SBD=8/17/1971.  Yes, a Rallye without the fender louvers from the factory because of the body side molding option.

BTW... I agree with you all about lots of  little boys in bowties. But there were more to begin with and CHEAPER to build....

A while back, I remember reading that the Big 3 use an attrition rate of 10% a year for certain models of vehicles.

Also, they only guarantee that they will make spare parts for 10 years after for a given model year.
