later model ECU
« on: November 09, 2011 - 10:36:01 AM »
I just found the original ECU from a 76 Charger I parted out.  The Charger was a 360 2-barrel car.  The ECU is a 5 pin and looks exactly like the original unit from my Challenger.  The only difference is the part number on the housing.  Can I assume that the 73 part number was just superseded and this ECU is OK to use on my 318?

None of the aftermarked units look the same.  I can clean this one up and repaint it.  Thanks

As long as the pin-count is the same, they will interchange.

later ECUs should be 4 pin so even the pin count will not matter if the car is wired for 5

This is a 76 model ECU and has 5 pins.  The only thing that looks different is the gold heat sink plate has an extra bevel on it that my original one didn't have.  I stripped the paint off of it and repainted it this weekend.  I ordered a new "Electronic Ignition" sticker for it too.  It worked when I parted out the car.  I hope it still works.  The part number/date code stencils should be done soon too.  If it turns out looking nice I'll post a picture of it.

Thanks for the help.
