Doesn't sound like anything too major.  I hope the price paid was appropriate for the work.  Put it away for the winter and spend the time gathering the parts you want on the car and figuring out the final details.  It sounds like the wonderful people here are willing to help and it looks like a pretty awesome car to me!

Hang in there, get your hands dirty, they are a blast to drive and work on. Better than a Minivan!

Sorry to hear about the problems.

Hopefully the seller will do the right thing and come forward and make things right.

I think thats the best response i've read yet. Hang in there my friend, put the car away for the winter and fix the problems with it later. We've all been burned at sometime or another and i hope you don't get too discouraged by all this that has happened to you. I can understand the frustration you feel right now but look at it as a lifes lesson. I'm sure with all the help and knowledge from this site you'll have an awesome car in no time

Hey Steve,

I understand how frustrating it can be to lay out a lot of funds on these vehicles and then to come find out that everything did not meet your expectations.  I get it and you have a right to be upset.  As you noted, some of that "upset" falls on your sholders for not flying in at a key point to make sure the work was being done to your expectations.

I can tell you first hand that everything Mopar costs 4 to 10 times as much as your Chevy or Ford projects.  And, from looking at the pictures of the work done, it looks like quality, although if there are chips in the paint, that's something Gary should have taken care of either doing the work or reimbursement to you.  Doing this big of a restoration takes a great amount of time, effort, knowledge, skill and $.  I can tell you that Gary is a good guy.  Good to do business with.  Offers quality parts at less than retail pricing.  And buddy, don't forget---------- you have a very DESIREABLE, 1970 RT with the numbers matching motor!  That puts you close to the top of the collector car food chain.  So, let's work through the issues with the advice of all members here and with the help of all those local to you that are willing to come over and spend a Saturday at your place for the cost of a beer.

Iam sad to say I have seen Steve's car.  The list of problems is short in compairison to what he has posted.  After getting the rear wheels to stop grinding we looked at the motor to see why it wouldn't start, it would  pop out the exhaust and backfire out of the carb. We checked for vaccum leaks and its ok.   Next was timing.  So with a timing light we looked at the timimg and it was wayout . So now we pulled off the rockers covers to have a look at the pushrods, rockers, and springs and it all looked good . Now we start to pull apart  the power steering pump and the alt, water pump, and harmonic balancer and timimg chain cover to see that the timing chain gears are off by three teeth ..... .So now we know why it will not start . We will get the car running properly so he can put it to bed and start again in the spring.           Dan

Not that its anyones business but I have no secrets. I paid $13,000 for the car and have put an additional $20,000 into the car. Thats $33,000 so far. $33,000 for a car that does not run? Don't give me this $10,000 for a showcar expectations crap.

That is a really low amount of money for what was supposed to be done on that car. On my 73 challenger restomod we have over 50 k in parts alone. It still should have been done right no matter what the cost but no way can you properly redo these  cars for anywhere near 20 k

Is it possible you both had different expectations?  He might have thought he was giving you a deal and you might have thought you over paid for what you got.  It's best to spell all the details out in writing first before doing a restoration and ALWAYS look at previous restoration the shop / guy has done.   Even talk to previous customers when possible.

As for price, that does seem cheap for a full restoration.  The last one I did myself (wanted everything to be perfect - date code correct) and I have over $90K before adding any time for my labor.  Remember, mine is all stock too.  Just a good paint job around here without any bodywork is around $20K.

By the sounds of it, you'll have everything dialed in and a pretty nice car when it's all done.  Hope you get a chance to enjoy it a little next summer.  Love the color!
The funniest thing about this particular signature is that by the time you realize it doesn't say anything it's to late to stop reading it.

Really?!?  :scared:

I didn't realize paint jobs have become so expensive. Are you talking jaw-dropping show car kind of paint job?
My car was last painted 15 years ago, guess I'm outta touch. Way out.
