A couple years after the parents bought the Gran Coupe, they bought a Pacer. I was about 16 then.
So cars image and styling were pretty high up on list about cars for me.

Being cool in the car even if you weren't the driver was pretty important to me in case you ran into some of your High School peers at a red light. (I could almost hear them... :blah:

When they brought that home, I could've killed them.  :stomp:
Mom's still alive. Dad is gone. (not from me of course)

This is exactly what it looked like.

Mopar clown,  I don't see many Daytonas out here in Colorado...hardly ever

My Mom drove a Pinto wagon, my Dad had better taste- 70 Buick GS, 74 Firdbird, Buick Grand National. I know no Mopars... but that Grand Sport was awesome! Love those cars to this day.

Topcat, that Pacer is horrific!  :puke:  Is it wrong I kinda liked the Gremlin though.....  :o

Caravans on the list? Who would use hagerty's to insure a caravan? I'm not surprised they think its extinct, but that doesnt mean there arent a bunch out there.
I loved the XR4TI. Considered buying one. Stupid name, and most people thought they were ugly, but I rented one for a week and even later test drove one at a dealership, and I remember the salesman even saying he couldnt believe I liked the styling because he thought it was ugly!
And remember those GM x body cars or whatever they were. That fwd Citation was supposed to be the car of the future. They must have sold millions, but they didnt even make it to the 21st century, because I havent seen one since the 20th.
I owned one of those scirroco's. White with a blacked out hood. It was a fun car. Not on the list but close was my black 82 supra. That was one of the best cars I ever owned, and my first really nice car that I was able to afford. Dont see them ever, but they were my favorite toyota of all time. It was about the closest thing at the time to a (japanese) muscle car. It had 4 seats, and had a smooth, quick straight 6.

I'm sure some day the Caravans will be seen as classics :)  Nostalgia has a way of coloring the past :) It might take another 20 years, but hey a 1963 VW minibus sold for 200k+  Who would have predicted that 15 years ago?

I think the difference is those VW buses were literally about 1000 times more rare than a caravan

Everything eventually becomes rare. It just takes time. Doubt they'll ever get like the 18 window values are.

I still got a bunch of comics!! Box of comics from the late 70's thru the 90's in esd bags have not looked in the box in over 15 years. Every wolverine, dark horse alien vs predator comics, etc spiderman 1 silver edition still in the plastic no price on it. May be worth something someday who knows? Used to have a huge stack of Heavy metal mags long gone. Some of the toys we used to play with as kids are worth a fortune now. My brother had an alien doll from the first movie prolly would have been worth a fortune today but i broke the leg off, Boy was he ever mad at me.

Suprisingly, a lot of pintos live on as race cars. There are becoup amounts of speed parts for the ford 2.3 four banger. The local mini-stock class is probably 95% pintos, 3% mustang 2, and the rest are imports.

For those old enough to remember the V8 vega craze, I was always suprised you didn't see more V8 pintos. A 302 was a bolt in deal with their crossmember design. No cutting, welding , or hacking required.

Surprisingly, a lot of Pinto model cars cost a little bit of $$$.  An AMT model kit made up to looke like a factory demo model car went for over $110 last week on ebay.  I like the slotted mags on the models.

The Vega V8 craze you mentioned made me think of it's sibling, the Chevy Monza.  Every so often on craigslist you'll see a pro-street Monza with a 383 or bigger engine in it.  Small quick cars, and they were another favorite of racers, but SCCA/IMSA stuff and also model cars back then.  The first model car I can remember getting was the Monza "BLack Max".

But check this out.  Might make you think twice about reliving the '70's and getting a pinto...

1972 Dodge Challenger Rallye 340, AT, Code TB3=Super Blue, SBD=8/17/1971.  Yes, a Rallye without the fender louvers from the factory because of the body side molding option.

EWWWWW That brings back a horrific memory....
My Mom had one with woodgrain decal all down the side. Ya couldn't get an uglier car! Anyway... my Mom's best friend had a daughter a few years younger than me, and she was always crazy about me. She used to take my school pictures off my Mom etc.... I've known her since we were kids. I was about 18-19 and my Mom sets me up an a date with this girl?  :pullinghair:  I lived with my Dad in a different town and had no idea what was going on till I came up for a visit. I get to Mom's house and she tells me about this "date" she had planned?? Like are you serious? :eek7: I didn't have much of a choice...mom's have a "way" of getting you to comply. So I had to take this girl out to the movies in a crap brown pacer with woodgrain down the side. The girl had it all "planned" Drove by all her friends etc... I'll just say thank GOD for the console! This girl was crazy, sort of like  the movie fatal attraction! .... It was a no win situation... :eek4:
When ever I see one of those cars I get flashbacks!  :banghead:

Most of the FWD turbo Chryslers are gone.  You used to see them all the time on the back lots at th dealerships.  I rarely see any 80's-90's "K-cars" on the road.  I see some at the Nat's every year but that's it.  It didn't help that they were cheap cars with good HP.  Most have been beaten to death.  Same thing goes for the SRT-4's.  It's really hard to find one in good shape.

Lookey at this, 400 whp #65 Shelby GLH-S : http://boston.craigslist.org/gbs/cto/2645128702.html

Got me a little battery powered Pinto, I think from 1974, so the date leads me to believe for $10.  Another auction had a blue one for $65.
Might hack it up a little and make it into a body for my XMODS RC car.  It'll have mags and fat rear tires...  :burnout:

Or should I keep it stock as it has the box and paperwork....  :dunno:

Everything eventually becomes rare. It just takes time.

True, but while rare, that still does not mean they will become desireable, which is what drives the price in to the stupid zone. Pacers are rare, 83 Challengers are rare, Renaults are rare, but very few people want to keep them around, so they aren't very desireable.

There are exceptions to that, ergo wing cars and 71 cudas. When these were new, not very many people wanted them and they were viewed as ugly, now they have become so exclusive, everyone seems to want one.

Good lookin daytona moparclown! Those were quick little cars back in the day. And i never see any of em anymore. Also the omni glh and glhs were really quick. A buddy of mine had an 85 glh and he ripped the hell out of that little car., He tore up many mustangs and camaros. Pocket rockets with high strung turbo fours, nothing about those cars was meant to last, Just GO LIKE HELL!
