Off and running..maybe not
« on: November 13, 2011 - 07:48:43 PM »
New to the board. Good start on the project. 1970 Challenger, bought last spring, basket case. Was an old drag car, supposedly in storage for many years. Previous owner bought to restore, lost interest, money or whatever. It was painted before I bought it, but, a real crappy job, and purple I don't like.  Anyway it is disassembled and I am working on individual component rebuilds. Looks like a probable complete repaint. No fender tag and the wrong dash and VIN dash plate. (Is it legal to repop the dash VIN?)  While I have a big block and 4 speed, I eventually will go with a Gen 3 hemi and 5 speed. I hope to have this a long time. Had an original TA 340-6 back in the 70s. Always loved the body lines. I know how everyone enjoys pictures so I attached a few. Will be looking for lots of parts and advice as I go, so thanks in advance.

Looks like you're doing a great job!

Was your car B5 blue originally?
The funniest thing about this particular signature is that by the time you realize it doesn't say anything it's to late to stop reading it.

car is a nice project  :2thumbs: on the vin number to a tag, do you have the title ? on the vin tag it may be up to your state laws but title will help and other places that show the last few numbers,,but the new vin plate will not be like the original

Welcome !    Looks like a solid project! K-frame looks great! I noticed the cap auto strut rods. If improved handling is something your after maybe ( if you didn't yet?) reweld up the K-Frame and gusset the steering box mount. They do flex some there.
Here is a picture/link from Firm feel as an example.

I know you have it all painted up nice, just thought I'd mention it before you have it all assembled in the car.

Looks like a great project! Keep them pictures coming!

I do have the title. VIN matches door, cowl, and rad support. Would just like the dash tag as well. I probably should have had the k frame all gusseted and welded, but I don't intend to abuse this car much. Already powdercoated now. I like the coolness factor of the strut rods and larger tie rod tubes. If I ever get serious about performance I would probably go the tubular k frame with a rack. I aam in a little town in north central Illinois.
