Roland,I can tell you a few things to watch out for.
I have never been to the US but one of my best mates (Dave)took an Australian 1968 Valiant ute with Aussie 6 cylinder hemi over and did Powercruise 2005 and 2006 in it.
For you US people it would be best described as a 68 Dart pickup.
From what he told me getting insurance was the most important thing.
However,getting insurance meant having the title to the car.
Over here we don't have titles as they do in the US.All you need here is a receipt from the previous owner saying you've paid for the car.
Can't remember how he got around it but it was a drama.
Worth checking out first.
The other one was fuel.
His car was high compression and he couldn't get premium fuel at some of the out of the way places he went to.
Even pulling timing out he said it was a real pain being soft on the throttle to stop pinging.
And he said US pump fuel aint as potent as ours is over here.
Not sure what yours is like where you come from.
Burnouts are cool but Traction is the Action

Wow, it's hard to keep up with all the replies  :thumbsup:

There are many issues I got to consider for this trip. First thing I want to do is to find out if there are issues that might cause a no go.
In my opinion that could be legal and/or insurance stuff.
So investigating that is step 1.
Step 2 is deciding on the route. This will eventually lead to a planned start and end date.
I need those dates for arranging shipment to and from Texas (most likely Houston).
Another reason for knowing these dates is that, in a perfect world, I could (partly) combine my trip with the VP2012 trip some of you guys are planning.
Step 3 is anticipating/preparing for all kinds of technical issues that I might face. Think of fuel that 'nqkjw' mentioned, or cooling, or what parts are most likely to fail, spare parts, where/how to get help, theft prevention, etc.

Roland-
If you do take the Houston to Denver route via Kansas, take a look at a side trip.
When you get to Wichita Kansas, instead of continuing north on Interstate 135 (I-135) then going west on I-70; when you get to Wichita, go west on Highway 54, it will take you to Dodge City.
Aside from the old west history it has, well, the town’s name is “Dodge.”
From Dodge City you can go north on Highway 283 and meet up with I-70 to finish the westward drive to Denver.

Also, if your trip is through Kansas, you’ll go through OKC.  We still have drivable section of the original Route 66.  You may have heard of it.

Hi Ron,

It is not my intention to do the VP route from Denver to Goldfield.
Back in the late 90s I did 4 trips in the US, mainly in the south west part.
On my way to Burning man in Black Rock Desert I want to visit some places I saw back then, combining it with some VP locations.
For now it looks like my route will go through these states (perhaps in opposite order):
Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, California, Nevada, Utah, Arizona, New Mexico, Texas.
So no Oklahoma, Kansas and Colorado.

But as I wrote earlier; first step 1, this feasibility study. (the annoying part of this 'project')

Dave, all of Europe, not counting Great Britain, drive on the same side of the road as us- the right side. Believe it or not, the Japs drive on the left, like the Brits.  :cheers:

Bring your license plates in your lukkage.
A friend of mine (also from the Netherlands) shipped his Camaro to Lingenfelter a few years ago.
When the car got back, the license plates were stolen.. I think they're on someones garage wall now :dunno:

I don't think you'll have to bring spare parts for an american car here. There are plenty of parts stores.

Or you could mail order some stuff and ship it straight to your destination....  :thumbsup:
