1973 Cuda Grill options ...change to 70?
« on: November 16, 2011 - 07:20:14 PM »
My 1973 Barracuda got hit in the front and destroyed my grill.  The insurance company found a reproduction 1970 Grill and listed it in the estimate.  Would a 1970 Grill fit right on?  Would I need to replace other parts in the front (IE the header panel)?  My lower valence is also wrecked but the lower plastic piece with two lights is fine, it just got popped out of place.  My car already has shaved turn signals so it's not all original and while I don't love the idea of mixing years (70 grill with 73 tail lights).... I also drive the car a lot (probably 3k miles a year) and wouldn't mind switching the rear panel over to a 1970 eventually.

There is a perfect NOS 72-74 Grill on ebay but it's $2200 shipped, so I'm not sure if the insurance company would go for that.

What are your thoughts?

Thanks,
Dave

I would remind the insurance company of the 1973 year of the car, ask them how a 1970 different grille is supposed to match.  Being the experts they are, they will surely know the difference :)  Then, send them the link to the NOS 73 grille and have them step up to the plate.  Not sure what kind of insurance you have.

The 1970 front header panel would also need to be replaced as that was a one year deal only.  All the cuda grills are sweet and I like them all  . . . Does the insurance company have a limit on what you can spend?

Then I would insist on the 72-74 grille being purchased and installed.
IMO, a better looking grill than the '70.

A 72 grill will match up perfectly on my 73, right?

I chose a body shop to work on my car and I think I found a 72 grill that will be less than $2200.  That ebay ad has come down since then and the only stuff available on Ebay for 72-74's is broken grills to use as patches.

The body shop was looking for a 73 grill but didn't have any luck.  If I can't get this 72 grill I think I'm going to clone an AAR and go with all 70 reproduction parts.

Thanks y'all
Dave

Dave,

My Cuda knowledge isn't strong, but I would bet on it. The 72-74 Challenger grills are the same.

Don't know if you still need a grill no price but it looks pretty good to me.  don't know how much shipping would be just thought I would post it.http://ontario.kijiji.ca/c-ViewAdLargeImage?AdId=344809089
