70 Cuda Center Console AMD Bracket Installation

Well based on what everyone is showing I think I have been had, attached are a couple of photos. Am I better off converting this one, finding a real one or buying an aftermarket one? Also please look at the second photo, is this the way it should look or is the piece broken on the right side of the photo at the end of the console?

Correct, if you look closely at the first pic in Jamiez's post you can see that the chrome edge stops at the rubber shifter boot along the driver's side of the console.  The opening itself is larger on 4 speed consoles, but I can tell you it can be hard to see in pictures unless they show an automatic console top right beside a manual one.  If you have an automatic console, and it sounds like you do, you can swap the tops out and use a template (search Ebay for "Mopar Console Template") to convert the bottom of your automatic console to clear the shifter.  The tops can be pricey especially reproduction ones, which is why I kept looking until I found an original 4 speed console.  Good luck.

I have the 4-speed console out of our car right now.  I'm presuming you have a 4-speed trans and want a console for it.  As Road Runner said, an automatic console can be converted to a 4-speed (in fact, there's a guy on ebay who regularly sells 4-speed consoles as originals, but they're not).  Here are the brackets on the car floor.  Notice that the front bracket goes crosswise and not as pictured on the AMD website.  I can give you measurements on where to weld them if you wish.

One note on mounting...

Once you get the rear bracket mounted, a good way to do the front is to:

a) attach front bracket to console

b) bolt console down to the mounted rear bracket

c) mark the position of front bracket on tranny hump

d) remove console and remove front bracket from console and mount front bracket where your new marks are.

I did mine this way and it came out perfect without the need for measuring. :-)

  yes theres a piece missing just in top of where the wood on the top plate ends,the matchstick sized groove at the edge of the console lid should make a u-turn (piece missing)around the top plate.otherwise it looks just like my 70 in the rear, at the seatbelt holder hole.

I've been out of town for a few days so I didn't see the rest of the posts on your subject.  My buddy, 4-SpeedFish used Bad-6PK's method and it worked out fine.  The brackets in our car are factory. Put the rear bracket on the hump with the little center ridges centered on the top of the driveshaft hump and the holes and overhang to the driver's side.  The front edge of the bracket is 5 3/4" back from the 4-speed hump piece.  The back edge of the bracket is 10 3/4" forward of the backseat crossmember. Here's a picture of the front bracket placement.
