1971 cuda bumper brackets hit grill?
« on: November 21, 2011 - 11:13:31 AM »
hey all
putting together 71 cuda, (using with some parts i thought were 1970), while trying to install grill (PPR)
it has 4 reliefs cut out of bottom mold, for bumper bracket clearance i would asume. but my bumper brackets inner supprts don't line up with grill reliefs, outers fit perfectly but inners dont line up, is it possible that i have a different year bumper brackets, were all 70-74 the same or only 70-72 then 73-74 same?

any help would be great

They are different.  I believe 70-72 are the same and 73-4 had different ones since the grill is pushed out for the bumper inpact steel insert and filler piece.    What part number do you have on the current brackets?

see  on pics how the inner 2 relief moulds in grill dont line up with bumper brackets outer 2 perfect but inner 2 dont line up accually hitting and pusing grill up, i just have sitting in there so as not to stress anything.

Look at the bumper...I can see where the large 73-74 bumper guards used to be.  You probably have the wrong brackets too.

I don`t recall seeing the bolts go through the top of the bumper on a 70 or 71... not sure on other years though  :clueless:   are you sure left & right inner brackets aren`t mixed up..?

As Dutch said, they're shouldn't be any bolts on the top side of the bumper.  The inner brackets should go through those notches and then bend inward to meet the bolt holes on the bottom of the bumper.
Our '70 inner brackets have numbers on the inner back end (which is where the rust tends to form).  One of the numbers is 29622?0 35756.

He has 73 or 74 bumpers and brackets.  You can see where the large bumper guards were.  The 70-72 bumper brackets most likely won't bolt to a 73 or 74 bumper.

Yep wrong bumper. Shouldn't be any bolts on top
