Any Pontiac Fans here?
« on: November 26, 2011 - 04:22:18 PM »
I've only seen a couple of these cars, but never seen the "Slant 4" engine. Wild huh? It's actually HALF a 389 Pontiac. It isn't running at the moment, been in a barn for the last 30 years. This ones for sale with a Hd top parts car if anyone here is interested. Car is VERY solid for a Convert. Located in Va. It's a 1962 Pontiac Tempest/Le mans. $3500.00 firm for BOTH cars.

I used to have one of those.  What a nightmare. Look at the transmission.  It does not bolt to the motor.  It is independent.

My mother-in-law had a Pontiac with the slant 4.  What a piece of crap and it wasn't just on the trunk lid.  PK

Yeah, I've seen them. They had a flexible drive shaft that went back to the transaxle and a 2 speed converter if memory serves. Weird little things and Buick or Olds made an example, too. Typical Pontiac of the 60's in that the interior wears like a pigs nose as the old man used to say. Put in the rest of that 389 and she'd be a killer sleeper. Not a bad price for 2 cars, just no room, money nor ambition!

Yeah, I'm a closet Poncho fan.  :misbehaving:  We had a few Pontiacs when I was younger, 2 gen 2 Trans Ams, '74 Bonneville.  Wouldn't mind a gen 2 trans am...

That engine really does look like half a 389! Never saw that before.

Did those cars have independent rear suspension?  Is this the car they talked about in the movie,  "My cousin Vinny"?  :clueless:

OK, guys don't get mad at me , but I've been and still am a Chrysler guy all my life. But in Sept 2003 I bought this new for my wife. It sits in the garage with only 9,200 miles and never been rained on. I think the tires have flat spots on them and I keep a battery tender on it...
Why? I don't know :clueless: :screwy: :banghead:

Pontiac stopped making cars in 1981....

A buddy of mine has one of those 4cy Tempests. Over half a million miles on it and still going strong. He drove it to the Pontiac nationals in Ohio this year. (from Arizona)
No breakdowns, no problems at all.
