Correct window cranks for a 73 Challenger... ?
« on: November 27, 2011 - 05:04:31 PM »
Just noticed that I have two different types of cranks in my 73:

Fronts are 2862396

Rears are also 2862396 but have a noticeably smaller / tapered black plastic knob

Whats the deal? Which is correct or do I have some weird inter-year parts switch over...?

The cranks with the smaller tapered handle are correct.  The cranks with the larger round handles came out around 1976.  The later style is available in the HELP section at some parts stores.  You'll need to go to a restoration supplier to get the correct 73 style.

I'll ask a newbie question here.   :misbehaving:

Are the big black spacers/washers between the window handles and the interior panel thicker on the rear window cranks?

So you're saying that all 4 should be the smaller knob style and that at some point the fronts got changed out?

I will say that the ones in front with larger knobs look to be in better shape. Possible they are in fact newer.

As to the spacers, MEK, there's definitely two different ones for front and back. I believe my fronts are the thicker ones... possible I got them mixed up at some point, though. :-)

LOL! I put the thicker ones in back, but I really don't know if that is correct or not. It's good to know we're in the same boat.   :grinyes:

They should all be the same style.  The knobs on my original ones are kind of loose.  I would imagine that when they broke, the replacements would have been the updated style.

As far as the spacers, I didn't mark them when I removed them.  I think the thicker one goes in the back but I'm not sure.  I have 3 different thickness spacers in my parts stash. :clueless:
