Interesting Find
« on: November 27, 2011 - 11:57:55 PM »
So I was out searching the web for pics of 73 Barracudas & Cudas and I ran across a Barracuda that was the same color as mine!  I've got a fairly rare 'Mist Green' with white top, stripes & interior car.  So I'm looking at the picture and I start to notice more & more things that are identical to my car and then it dawns on me, ITS MY CAR!! I felt so stupid!  Turns out somebody posted a bunch of pics from the North Georgia Mopar Show in Morrow, GA from back in the summer.  So much for finding another car the same color combo as mine!!

Here's the link:

If you have any Mist Green 73 Plymouths or Pale Green 73 Dodges please do.  I keep looking for other pics for that color because mines been repainted and I've seen different colors on these cars all called these colors, and there's a lot of variation.

Thanks, Jim

That would be great if you do.   Somehow I went to the show with only the camera in my phone which at the time wasn't a good one.  Have a better one now though for next time.  Here's the picture I downloaded from the link above:

Tell us more about the car please.  It looks like a 318 with A/C.   Did you restore it...is it a survivor?  How close to correct is the engine comp.?  It looks good from what I can see.

At least you didn't find it on E bag or Craigs list as some have theirs.   :22yikes:

I'd be glad to.  I would definitely classify it as a survivor.  I believe it has the original 318, 904 & 8 3/4 rear.  Its a high option car with an original rallye hood, A/C, PS, PB, cruise control.  The color is the most unique, Mist Green, which I understand only a couple of hundred were made in this color.  Add the original white vinyl top, stripes & interior and its got to be a low numbers car.  That said, the color wouldn't have been a lot of peoples first choice which probably had a lot to do with so few being made in this color.  At the car show I got a lot of positive comments about the car, especially the color which I think makes it look like the 70's car that it is.  I bought it to hop up, but the longer I have it the more I appreciate it for the survivor it is.  What mods I will end up doing, I really want to keep the original look even if I move from being the total original car it is.  I bought it from the second owner who only had it a year.  He bought it with the intention of putting a modern hemi in it, but decided he had too many projects.  The original owner was a little old lady (no joke) who bought it in  1973 and sold it in 2009.  During that time she didn't change a thing, even some things that could have used replacing like the trans mount that didn't have hardly any rubber left.  She did however add a trailer hitch to tow her boat with it!  You can still see where the brackets were mounted on the bumper.  Honestly, it looks a little better in the picture than up close.  It needs a little body work & a repaint.  It needs the interior redone especially the dash pad & door panels, but for an almost 40 year old car its pretty darn nice.  Thanks for asking!

As you know, the most popular years for the E-bodies are the 70 and 71's.  A lot is known about those cars.  There is a lot to learn about the 72-74 cars.  Before you do anything to the car, please take a LOT of detailed pictures.  These cars are only original once.

Take a lot of engine compartment pics if it is mostly untouched.  Take suspension/rear axle pics if any inspection marks are still visable.  Those pics would help out a lot of people...me included.

I have some questions if you have time to answer them...

Dipstick handle should be bare and unpainted...the tube should be engine color

Is the negative battery cable painted engine color at the head or not?

Are any of the water pump bolts that hold accessory brackets blue or are they phosphated?

The hood pad doesn't look moulded...everyone says the moulded ones are correct but I think mine had a die-cut pad like yours.

Are there any markings on the brake booster hose and PCV valve hose?

What markings/stripes are on the charcole canister hoses...and any of the other vacume lines?

Does it have the original spark plug wires on it?  If so, are the black or orange?

What is the SPD of the car?

You can PM me if you want to.  I want to get my 318 detailed correctly.  Any pictures you could take would help alot.  I know of a few 74 survivors but havn't been able to find any 73's.  Thanks

I'd be glad to take pictures of anything you'd find helpful, however I may have given the wrong impression as the car has had some maintenance and the engine was rebuilt sometime in the 90's by the original owner but then driven very little according to the seller.  The way it runs I have no reason to doubt that as it runs extremely smoothly, as good or better as I remember these running new (had two 318 powered Mopars back in the late 70's early 80's).  Let me look at the car in bright light and if any of the things you mentioned look original I'll snap a picture and send it your way.
