Rear wheel Offset help!!

My 72 Cuda is finally finished with its 2 year resto.  However my rear 18"/9.5 American Racing Torq Thrust II Customs don't fit!!

The offset is off and the wheel gets into the fender lip when it squats.  Is anyone running 18's on the back of their E-body?  If so what offset / back spacing?   I need to pull the wheel in about an inch to clear.

I'll let others chime in if its possible to fit 9.5" wide wheels with everything stock, but I'm also looking at running 10" rallyes on back of my 73 Barracuda but that's going to require a 1" offset kit like Dr Diff sells and either a 68-70 B-Body rear (which I already have to go on) or moving the pads in on your stock rear.  I've been told I'll need 5.5" negative offset even with the 1" narrower rear to clear the outer lip which sounds about right.  Currently I have 8" rallyes with 3.5" negative offset and they just barely clear the lip and the rear of mine sits fairly high and I'm not sure even the 8" rims & 275/60/15 tires would clear if it sat lower.  You're best best is going to be the 1" offset kit for sure.

If your wheels are backspaced too little and you're hitting the fender lip, the only option you have, to move in an inch, is, as said by R_R, to switch to a b-body rear with spring offset kit.  Do you have the inch or so of space needed between your tire and springs to move it in an inch without a relocation kit? If so then you could sell the rims and buy a pair with the backspacing that will work.

There have been some threads here on this subject and I'm interested, too. The most common number I recall was 4.5" back space. I'd like to run a 17" wheel on mine. Any suggestions from those more experienced?

Just throwing this out... but did you mount both rear wheels or just one?

I ask because it's not uncommon for the diff to be off center.

Mine is shifted about half inch towards driver's side and I've heard of others as well.

I'm running 17x9 with 4.5" backspacing. (265 wide tires)

IF my diff was centered correctly there might be room for an extra half inch of rim. But it would be very tight.

I don't think re locating the hangers would do anything for you because your issue seems to be outside clearance, not inside...

I'd be hard pressed to go to the trouble of a shorter diff for just .5 inch more wheel.

I have 18x9 on stock suspension, 5.9" BS with 7/16" worth of wheel spacer. It's always easier to lose backspacing than it is to get it back.
