Rear 6x9 Recommendations
« on: November 29, 2011 - 09:57:59 PM »
What are some reasonable speakers for the rear of my Challenger that will also fit in the defogger housing like this one? It's the re-pop one available on ebay.

I'm confused. Are you going to use the rear defog and just run a speaker on one side? Are you going with a pair of 6x9s in the back? Are you going to ommit the defog? or just want a small speaker to fit in the defog bracket? I would think it's one or the other. Either you can have defog, and one 6x9 on the other side (maybe a dedicated one speaker 6x9 woofer) or take the defog bracket off and have two 6x9s. You can't have both without a lot of cutomizing. What are you trying to accomplish?

My car has the defogger but it was mounted to one of the speaker openings. It's my understanding that this unit allows you to have the defogger unit and a pair of speakers though I haven't seen exactly how it mounts yet. It'd be nice to see how it's supposed to be installed as well as know if there are any limitations for speaker size etc.

Yeah, I had never heard of the part before this last summer. CODY showed me an original unit when I was asking how I should put in a pair of speakers as well as the defogger. I believe it is fairly rare. Then I found the reproduction on Ebay and would like to know how it's installed and what speakers would be good to use in it.

I found another thread that mentioned a user that has this installed. I've PM'd them and hopefully will track down some pictures.

FWIW, I ordered one from the ebay vendor. I'm working out some details since they sent me 2 housings and 0 plates. Other than that the part looks well made. It appears to be installed under the passenger side rear speaker. As soon as I get my plate, I'll install speakers and housing.

If you're still looking for recommendations on speakers, I have a set of Soundstream SST6.9s and I love em.

They're very reasonable priced, too.

I bought them based on a review of 25 different speakers. The Soundstreams came in 1st place.

Sets are under $100 on ebay.  :2thumbs:

Those pictures are exactly what I needed. Especially the little bracket for the offset mount.

If you don't have that angled bracket, there is a guy on Moparts that had a new one made.  It looks just like the original one.  He might be able to have one made for you.

Are you still trying to find a speaker?  If you have your original ones you can send them out to be re-coned.  I sent my two factory speakers to Jackson Speaker Service.  It's $50 per speaker to have them redone.
