seat recovering: Im gonna try it !
« on: December 03, 2011 - 06:47:03 PM »
My seats have been out of the car and sitting in my garage for the last year, After getting a price to have the interior redone, I think im going to try to do everything but the headliner and black vinyl top myself. I may be biting a bit much off but you never know unless you try so here it goes  :working:

Just get yourself a pair of hog ring pliers, and a bag of hog rings. It's not bad, just time consuming. Start with the rear seat to build your confidence.

:iagree: And take your time to make sure it is centered. I just went through this
on my rear seat. I had to buy some burlap from JoAnn fabrics to fix a panel on the inside,
It had it originally but mouse pee kinda ruined it. All in all, not a difficult job.
If I cant fix it, it's broke

Thanks for the advice, I already had the hog ring pliers, Legendary was nice enough to send them to me( for a few bucks lol) with the hog rings. I spent the last few hours removing the old and installing the new..... Here is the results....  the frames and padding were all ok for being 35 plus years old so I just had to be careful not to pinch or tear anything.

Me Too. Please pass on your experiences. BTW: why can't  the original hog rings be reused to fasten the upholstery? :clueless: :dunno:

You deform the hog rings when you put them on.  Sort of like the way a stapler deforms a staple.  To remove them you cut them off.  They are really cheap to replace....again like staples...no one ever bends staples back to use them a second time :)

I did mine in my 69 Cuda.
A little trick that someone passed on to me is lay the covers out in the sun as they stretch out much better.

Hello everyone,

Glad to see some are going down the DIY install path.

We are in the process of filming seat install videos for both our website, and Youtube.  At present we have one long set in three parts to give a good place to start.  We will eventually have videos for all buckets, bench seats, etc.  On Wednesday we are filming a 70 Challenger bucket install.

We will keep you posted on our progress.  Remember that we have a Tech department to help answer any questions.  Watch the videos, call Tech with any questions before you start, and dive in.  A tools/materials and teardown video is being edited right now.

Have a great day.

Don't sweat the headliner install.  It's a piece of cake.  Buying the correct headliner for your car is the key.  It's twice the cost of the perforated headliners but worth the cost.  There is a 0% chance of wrinkling the Yorkshire fabric.

I have used your seat covers on my cars and a few friends cars and will say you make a great product.

Thanks everyone for the replies! next Im going to tackle the passenger side bucket at some point this week. The drivers side needs to have some foam padding repaired and Im not quite confident enough to try it myself. The reason I am going to let the interior shop in the local area do the head liner and the vinyl top is that at the same time Im also going to have the front and rear windows installed. Glad to see legendary chime in as the covers went on without a hitch and were great to work with, Quality all the way! I will post more pictures as I get to the bucket seats , By the way that cuda interior looks great!
