Mil Spec electrical connectors....I need an education?
« on: December 05, 2011 - 09:37:27 PM »
Ok I bought a STR-14 intake and am considering hiding a fuel injection system inside, so I need a connector that has 16 pins, waterproof, holds vaccum, and preferably with a 90 deg socket on one end for the injector wiring. I need a male and female set. Looking on E-Bay to see what's available and see lots of military spec plugs but have no clue on the specs, like will it seal and not cause a vaccume leak?  Second question... anyone know where I would get one? I don't see any with 16 pin connectors...yet?  I figured there are more than a few members on here in or were in the military, thought maybe someone might know?
Something like this.... but with 16 pins and smaller in size?

You might find http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/U.S._Military_connector_specifications educational

You can use the numbers to find documents like this:
http://www.landandmaritime.dla.mil/Downloads/MilSpec/Docs/MIL-DTL-26482/dtl26482.pdf

Which should cover everything you need to know :)

I'm missing something here. I use those type of connectors all the time at work, but vacuum? They are electrical connectors. Don't see how they could cause a vacuum leak.
However, misunderstanding aside, I'll check and see if I can source a couple 16 pin connectors.

I just meant that they will not leak when installed in the intake (Like through the electrical connections?), causing a vacume leak. I plan on machining a hole and mounting the connector to the intake , then with the other end plugging in the harness.   Hard to explain, but I hope you understand what I'm trying to say?
Thanks for looking for me! :2thumbs:

I used to build cabling for farm equipment gps. we back-filled the connector housings with silicone sealant after assembly and used a vacuum test to ensure integrity.

Ya  that's my plan too after I solder in the wires . Either silicone or epoxy to seal it. Here is what I just bought off e-bay, cheap ..$14  for 2 sets ?
