Best Gaming system?
« on: December 08, 2011 - 01:18:14 AM »
So I was talking with the woman and she tells me she thinks we should ask her parents for a gaming system.  I am not up on what is good and what is not.   She is looking to use it for dance games and exercise programs.  I am not sure what I want but will figure out something to use it for.   So my question is . . What s the latest and greatest system on the market?   All opinions are appreciated.    :2thumbs:

XBOX 360 and Kinect is a hoot. My sister has one and its a riot to play Dance Central on. My little niece who is 3 absolutely loves the Kinect and its games so it is a good excuse for my sister and brother in law to buy games hehe. The Wii is cheaper, but it requires you to hold onto the remotes. The PS3 move also requires you to hold onto stuff in order to play, but a PS3 would double a blue ray player.  :dunno: Guess it comes down to personal preference..

I chose an Xbox since most everyone I know has one and I prefer the games that are Xbox exclusives. I wish Microsoft had a blue ray drive on the Xbox, but I rarely watch movies anyways, so it wasn't a deal breaker for me. Also, I plan to buy a Kinect in the near future, so the Xbox was a no brainer for me...

Ohhhh yeah, Forza 4 (xbox exlcusive game) has a TON of muscle cars that you can race if you're into racing games. '68 Dodge dart gts, 71 cuda, etc  :burnout:

If you're going to have the system hooked up to the internet, I would not go with a ps3. People have hacked them and gotten peoples information. Xbox 360 hasn't had that problem but you also have to pay $60 a year if you want to play online with other people.

On the other hand if you aren't going to hook up to the internet at all, choose any of the systems. Although my vote would still be xbox 360 with a kinect, as that is all I am familiar with.

We have a PS3 and I think it works ok, I have 3 boys and hardly ever get to use it!  :sly:
It's great for watching blue ray movies though!

Depends on what you're looking for. With the 360, you get Kinect (camera based input that detects your body movements). With the PS3 you get a built-in blu ray player. Games on either are great.

I personally find the 360 controller to be more comfortable. The thumbsticks on the 360 controller aren't right next to each other, also the thumbsticks and triggers are concave whereas the PS3 controller thumbsticks and triggers are convex.

The Wii is certainly not the "best gaming system" but it does offer what you guys are looking for. Internet services are free within your Wi-Fi. The Wii Fit system is pretty cool and there are many not so "hardcore" games available for it. My Wife prefers the Mario games, I have a couple shooters I get a kick out of, but it is not as extreme as the Xbox or PS3. If you are looking for a wide variety of high quality/in depth games, graphics, etc, the Wii is probably not for you. I like we can download older games on the Wii, it plays lots of "family friendly" games and does what we would like it to...but it's not a "gamers system".

Thanks guys . . that was exactly the information I was looking for!  I knew I'd get the answers here . . .

Since I already have a couple blue ray players, that is not an issue.  It looks like the XBOX 360 is probably the route I will go!

People have hacked them and gotten peoples information.
What personal info would a person have on a game system?  :dunno:

To be more accurate, people hacked into PSN, the PlayStation Network and may have compromised some personal information.  PSN includes the store so it's possible users might have had credit card information.  They would also have access to email addresses and potentially PSN passwords.  Some people use the same password for multiple systems which would be bad if you used the same password for your bank, paypal, etc.

Also, Xbox has a free network as well (silver) it just has less features than the paid version (gold).

XBOX 360 with Kinect is my vote, especially if you are looking at dance games and fitness.  You can also control everything through voice commands with the Kinect.  I haven't tried it, yet, but it seems pretty cool.  You can also stream just about any of the online video services through it.

As far as the XBOX Live memberships, you can shop around online and find them as cheap as $40 for the year.  To me that's the best $$ spent for entertainment purposes.  I'm one of those midlife crisis guys who plays about 10-12 hours a week.

If you have a Best Buy near you, they usually have all 3 systems set up, so you can try them all out.  Kinect is the only one that does not require a controller to operate.

we have all 3 in my house  :faint: and an extra 360 with Kinect in the basement hooked into a projector (yah I know my kids are spoiled) but I know were they are at and who all there friends are.

the ps3 still has better graphics but all the good games and the on line content are on the xbox. The wii is for little kids mostly not much for adult gamer's there is a new one coming out next year so its best to wait.

and the Kinect is the best motion sensor system because of nothing to hold in your hand on some games, pretty cool wheels for driving games also the voice control is pretty cool.
