Deck Lid spring bar?
« on: December 10, 2011 - 06:17:01 PM »
My '72 Cuda has only one bar under the dutchman panel to raise the deck lid, leaving the left hinge hanging limp. Any other Cuda I look at has two bars, with 4 slots on each side, the bar resting in the third slot. Mine only has slots on the left side.
Should only the right hinge lift the deck lid or am I missing something? Thanks for any help you can give!

Mine is set up the same as yours. Works just fine. I've seen this discussed before but no
rhyme or reason seems to be evident as to what cars got any particular amount of torsion bars.
If I cant fix it, it's broke

70 had two torsion bars. In 71 they went to one.  I'm not sure about the later years.

This has been discussed before and there isn't a clear cut answer.  From what I've read it looks like this....

Challengers
1970 (2-bars)
1971 (1-bar)
72-74 (2-bars)

Cuda
1970 (2-bars)
1971 early (1-bar)
1971 late (2-bars)
1972 (1-bar) some may have had two
73-74 I think I've heard of some with 1 and some with 2.

Is the Cuda trunk lid lighter then the Challenger lid?  That could be part of it.
