I spent many hours test fitting the quarters, inner and outer wheel wells. Trunk floor filler panels, Attached the rear tail pan, set the trunk deck. lower valance. (Clamps and vice grips).
After reviewing fit each time I came up with locations that all pieces fit the best. Lots of measurements taken up to this point. At this point I Doweled each joint. (I used Self tapping #8 x3/4" Teck screws). This gave me a premium location for each panel and an easy way to install them.
The pieces were disassembled and then each mating joint had the primer ground off. (This is a must for using epoxy). I used a 40 grit flap disk. (My recommendation for grinding).
I now set my Inner fender wells and welded into place using the dowel holes to align to my "Best fit" (Reinstall the screws to hold them in place). remove the screws and plug weld them. I drilled 5/16' holes in the panel I was attaching, marked the holes to the mating surface with a paint pen. Made sure the panel I attached to had no primer at the weld joint. Ground the spots that had primer. Welds do not like paint or primer.
Outers were next, same procedure.
My trunk floor was now welded into place. I used the Dowel method for this as well. I had my tank supports installed before this step.
I now put both quarters on, the rear tail pan and trunk gutters. using the dowel method. TEST FIT. Again.
Now I Fit my trunk fillers in and set them for final assembly. Removed everything AGAIN. Welded them into place.
Now the quarters. I placed epoxy on the edges I ground the primer off. Make sure you do not forget the quarter to the outer fender joint. I chose spots that I placed epoxy on the panel based on how assembly will take place. Most of the epoxy was on the Quarter side of the seams. The install as most can attest to is tricky, I started with the quarter hooked on the door post. I then swung the panel up into the cab joint, up to the rear deck and attached a vice grip. I now pulled the panel onto the wheel well, set the door joint bottom onto the rocker and installed the dowel screws. I installed the dowel screws to the cab joint. Next I removed my vice grip at the rear deck, Put in my lower dowel screws on the filler, And attached vice grips to the wheel well and trunk filler panel. I now moved back up to the rear deck and made sure the body contour matched and Vice gripped it into place. put a few more vice grips on the rear window seam. Stood back and had a BEER and appreciated my work.
My 45 minute install and adjusting was preceded by Days of test fitting.
I did all the assembly Myself, I am sure a helper would make it easier.
I hope this clears up some of the questions.
I do have one big recommendation to anyone who removes all the rear sheet metal. Do not let the car sit on the suspension for very long as your frame rails will sag from the weight of the car. Place blocking or Jack stands at the rear of the body to hold the weight.
