    Ceramic Disc Brake Rotors

    I was at the nearby Mercedes Benz the other day attending to business.

    There sat a 2011 Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Gullwing at Service.

    They have Ceramic rotors. I heard they are extremely expensive.
    Is that something available aftermarket for Mopars? Really nice!

    That sure is a beautiful car! Did you get any pictures?
    I have no idea about if they( ceramic rotors) are available for our e-body's.... I doubt it?
    I've always wondered what happens to them in a collision? :dunno:

    No. We just got drilled/slotted offerings a year or so ago. We will likely never seen a bolt on carbon or ceramic offerng for a stock mopar hub arrangement. Just not enough demand for them to ever see them come around.

    Ceramic rotors usually cost about $2,000 a piece. Also a standard caliper cannot handle the heat generated by the ceramic rotors (specifically the seals), therefore you would need custom calipers as well. I know this because I was asking Stop Tech and Brembo about it for my ACR Viper. I was hoping I could just swap out rotors and pads but it turns out it's not that simple. A typical ceramic brake kit runs between $15,000 and $20,000.

    Have you figured out what brake package you'll be using?
    - Disks in all four corners or just up front?
    - What brand name?

    Just front for now. big drums out back work good.

    How do the wear? For that price I would think they'd have to last a very long time.  Or is the big advantage just the weight savings?
