For those of us that can enjoy a drink without complication it is a wonderful thing. I especially  enjoy a  social drink with friends and conversation.  Used responsibly this can be a joy of life.  Personally I prefer beer.  As my signature (The Brewmaster) might indicate I was a Brewmaster for most of my working life-- first for Olympia, then Pabst after they acquired Olympia. I enjoy a beer with dinner just about every day but don't consider my self a "drinker"  I can take it or leave it as far as any dependency.  As in liquor, there are some really great beers out there and the selection keeps getting better.  Being in the Northwest my favorite brands start with Deschutes Brewing in Bend, Oregon but there are many other good ones. THIS IS SO TRUE! To this day I still know lots of guys that think good liqour is made to get hammered. Or the "preachers" that dont drink. Then you find out they dont because they couldnt handle it. They undersstand nothing about a few ice cubes, a good cigar (often in my case), and just sit and relax. Good conversation with good company. Not how many shots you can do. BTW ol BIGS dont do shots generally.  Its a different mindset & lfestyle. And a waste of good stuff. If you wanna get hammered rot gut's cheap!

Beer most of the time...but once in a while it's hard to beat Glenlivet over ice on a warm summer evening.

I'm 98% a beer drinker. I remember about 25 years back, a former co-worker who was from Alabama, introduced me to moonshine.   :22yikes:

Holy crap!! I'm just happy I still can remember that night.   :grinyes:

:iagree:   My old man used to say the 'shine made in Bruce County wasn't as good in the winter because they couldn't get the mud turtles to swim around and keep the mash nicely mixed! LOL! Tasted like Dentyne and would take the paint off the fender of a Mack truck; jeezus! Stick to the 18 yr old Glenmorangie with a wee dash of branch water and you'll be OK. Is it too early to wish everyone a Merry Christmas? Ian

I've had moonshine before too.
OMG, it's too strong. Guy made it out of figs. We mixed it with punch.

I took a swig out of a brown jug when I was younger that burnt so bad I could not breath and swear it stopped my heart for a few seconds. I'll bet a few milliters in a drink Mug with a whole 2 litre of pop mixed in would have still been strong. Probably only 1% away from being industrial alcohol.

Not much of a whiskey drinker here, but I've been fortunate enough to try a few really nice things in the past few years.

The first was a 27(?) Year Glenlivet. I didn't get much and most of it just absorbed into my mouth, but it was nice.

Recently had a 40 year Glenlivet and a 50 year MacPhail's. The 50 year was great, but I think the 40 was nicer.

I'm usually just a beer snob on regular days. :)
