wheel sizes

Hey guys,
1970 Challenger
I am also looking at Vintage Wheel Works V48 (minilites) wheels. They think I can run 9 1/2"x17" on the back with a 5"offset and 275/40/17 tyres, but I have heard that 4 1/2" - 4 7/8" is the max offset I can get away with. I have 8 3/4" axle and SSBC disc conversion. If the 5" offset is a problem can I get over it with spacers?

On the front I would like 8"x17" with 4 1/2" offset and 245/45/17 tyres. Here I have the Classic Performance disc conversion kit

Thanks in advance. Neil

Dude, you gotta stop posting every question you have in the general area.  There are specific areas to post technical questions.  In this particular case, there is a whole section dedicated to suspension, wheels/tires, etc.

Secondly, you need to use the search function.  This topic has been beaten to death:  http://www.cuda-challenger.com/cc/index.php?topic=19470.0

I'm sure you can find what you're looking for in there... in either case, you are best off posting your questions/comments in the wheel/tire area.

Welcome from the other side of the pond!  :canada:

No worries...I did the same thing when I joined too!  You might find the "search function" doesn't always work that well. If it doesn't...well.... it's not just you!
Look in this post for some info? ( just warning you it's a long one! LOL )

No worries!  Along with what Brad said, you can actually use google to search for your questions instead of the site's search engine... just type site:cuda-challenger.com before your query to search specifically on cuda-challenger's pages.

That's actually an excellent point. Google's search function is much more polished

Thanks guys
I didnt know that. That is really useful:)
Brad, are they Minilites you have? What sizes are they? Here are some pics of my black Challenger. It is a 340, but have ordered an Indy 415 LA Magnum and tremec 5speed, which are being shipped as now. Mine no longer has the red stripes. I intend lowering it and painting it white, adding minilite style wheels. Possibly those Vintage V48's on the white 71 as they go to 17". Vintage reckon I can get away with 8x17 with 4.5" bs on 245/45/17 front and and 9x17 with 5" bs on 275/40/17 rear. Although it now sounds like I may need a small spacer for those.
The white 70 pic I resized the wheels and lowered it to show the look I am after.
The final pic of the wheel is made by Rota and model is RBX. They are planning to make the 4.5" stud pattern, but they dont know when, but it is a sleek looking wheel. What do you guys think?

Thanks for all your advice. Neil

I really liked that red stripe!  :2cents: Mine are 15" rims 51X7 on the front and 15X8 on the rear 235/60 /r-15
and 255 /60/r-15 . I'm planning a Dana 60 in the future . When I do I'll get 15X10" rims for the back and see if I can make the 15X8 fit on the front.

Ya, this site has a way of making you spend more money than plan on each year.  Every time you see the pics of somebody elses ideas or project makes you say 'COOL!  I want to do that!' And then more money flies out of your wallet  :money: :money:
