Whats the longest you've owned a Mopar?
« on: December 22, 2011 - 12:32:50 AM »
Some here have owned many Mopars.
Good stories to hear I bet.

How long?

Stories about them and why you decided to let it go...Or still have it.

The longest I have owned a Mopar is 14 years, which is my 72 Challenger that I still have. It was my first car, it has been a lot of fun over the years.

Given that I am 27 I would say 9 years is a long time to own a car having never driven it.

Mom & Dad drove it home one dark night in Spring when I was 12 yrs old.
That was in 1972.

I will never forget the night it rolled up.
I was in the garage. This mean looking car comes pulling up to the garage.

My eyes got real big. It looked like one of my Hot Wheels I had. The Snake.
I recognized the grille immediately.

In 78' Mom & Dad gave her to me. I never let go.
Women came and went. But she stayed with me to this day.

It started in 65 with my grandmother's dead 58 Crusader, then to a 64 Polara 440, then to a 67 Valiant 100 273 power pack car that I put a 68 340 in, then to a 72 340 Duster, then to a 73 340 Dart Sport and so on. Have a 74 360 Challenger and a 65 Coronet 500 these days. Oh, did I mention that my grandfather had a Chrysler dealership? For a long time, it WAS Mopar or no car. Ian

My first Mopar was a 70 Dart Swinger, a mildly built 318, had it from '84 to '99. I sold to my best friend and he still has it. Got my Challenger in '85. I will never forget the phone call, Randy had just lost his license as a habitual traffic offender (21 tickets) and with a loan on the car was required to keep full coverage insurance on it. He was looking at $175/ month, we were just out of high school and he couldn't afford it. So he called me and said "If you assume the loan you can have the car, because I know you will take care of it." I had to think about it for three days and then went for it. Still have the car to this day and still talk to Randy, he's happy to know where the car is but irritated too.    :bananasmi

In 95 I purchased a tan and white 1977 Dodge Ramcharger with the removeable top.   318 auto.

Loved it so much, I purchased another one and still have my second mopar!

Does this count...

My dad bought the new for '68 Road Runner, 383 Auto, decor package and all the heavy duty goodies. Mom used it as a back up driver through the 70s. I drove it through most the 80s as my primary car, gave it back to Dad in the 90s and he has spent the last two decades restoring it and it still isn't done. Hard to make progress when you only work on it a week a year.

Personally, I had my '67 for 15 years. I've now had my Challenger for a decade.

1st car was a Aspen R/T

had for a few years bought it off my Uncle who bougt it new after he got out of the air force. I love that car black with the red and orange stripes 360 V8 with the console tach and white interior was fun to drive. Never had another one until I bought the barracuda in 2005 after I returned from my Iraq deployment. Recently bought the wife a dodge ram truck that we both love. Cold weather killed the gas cap and I had to get another one to clear the code.

Well at 17 I bought my first Mopar a 70 White R/T 440 4 spd Challenger , drove it for 2 summers & I guy came to my door every week asking to buy the car , eventually the offer was close to 3 x what I had paid for it & I let it go . What a dumbass !! My heart broke watching the car drive away , I didn't care about the $$ I just wanted my car back & tried to reverse the deal but no way , so I spent most of the winter looking to replace it & in the spring I found the R/T SE I still own , I have been offered stupid $$ for the car but I still remember the way I felt watching the first one get away !!
The stupid part is I have no clue why I own it , i have only put 6000 miles on it since I bought it & since I finished restoring it almost 3 years ago I have put 10 more miles on it & now I am faced with shipping it to Panama . the first R/T was just a driver & I had more fun with that car , this one is just to rare & valuable .

I've owned my Cuda for 24 years now and never intend to let it go. I purchased the car from member Metallychallenged's mother who is my first cousin. I was working to buy the car from her since i was 16 years old. It was just sitting there slowing rotting back to earth and i remembered the day of seeing that car driving on the streets along with many other of their mopar friends at the time including my brother with his 70 challenger. I had to have this car and the dream finally came true in October of 87. This car was used as my cousins daily driver and a family car and i remember seeing Metallychallged (Chris) riding in his car set in the back.

Bought my '70 Barracuda brand new - still have it.
Survived 2 wives, 4 kids and one bankruptcy.
Amortized over 41 years  -  $0.29 per day!
I just have to figure out how to be buried in it,  although a Thelma and Louise ending might be cool!

That is exactly how I feel on the rare / valuable / matching numbers cars - they are great and I enjoy looking at them but I would be uncomfortable driving them much, but I will have more fun out with a car that I can drive 1 to 3 thousand miles a year without worries...
