New here, but owner for 22 years now!
« on: December 22, 2011 - 04:49:30 PM »
Hello...Glad to be here. Good friend of mine turned me onto this forum as he is restoring his Challenger. I have been the proud owner of a 1970 Barracuda Gran Coupe since 1989. Original X9 Black, Black/White houndstooth interior, 2 fender tag option car. PB, PS, cruise, AC, power window, roof counsel, textured rear window trim, etc...ect. Car came with a 383/4 BBl, but now sports a fully built stroked 340 sitting at 416ci, appx 450hp.

I stored the car in various garages / barns until I finished college, got married and bought my first house. Now on my 4th house and the first wife is long gone and I've managed to keep my baby. Bought her when I was 19 and decided to keep because of its rarity and the fact that it was built shortly before I was born, she came out of Hamtrack. Rust repair and paint was done in 1999 and the car has only been washed 3 times since then. Maybe a photo or 2?

Photos taken on Chicagoland Speedway (I am a PT driver/instructor for a NASCAR entertainment company regularly driving the nations NASCAR tracks at +165mph).

Other forums I'm on, members always ask about my user name: FLYGFSH. Besides my fish, I have another obsession!

Thanks guys, I look forward to being a welcomed addition to the group!

FLYGFSH,
Welcome
WOW, that’s one beautiful Gran Coupe!  :2thumbs:
She looks extremely elegant in black.
Would like to see some interior and engine pictures

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you and yours
BTW – That’s a cool submarine, too  ;)

Engine has about 850 miles on it now. Still doing some detail work....as always.

Door panels were off today as I needed to replace some window motors.

Would love to find previous owners to show them the car?? Also, I know its rare...just how rare? I have only broken it down by engine and trans and it was 1 of 728?

FLYGFSH-
Thanks for posting the additional pics.

Regarding Gran Coupe info, look here: http://www.cuda-challenger.com/cc/index.php?topic=52585.0
Thread titled: How many on here own a Gran Coupe?

Also, I know it’s not a submarine, it’s obviously an aircraft.  Can you provide some info on it?
Is there something wrong with the front landing gear?

Thank you
Ron

Ron,

Too funny! The airplane in question is called a Long-EZ, designed by Burt Rutan himelf. Search the internet or youtube for all the details...amazing aircraft / designer! The engine is a pusher config, without a pilot in the plane, the CG (center of gravity) is too far aft, and the plane will tip backwards, onto the prop. The nosegear retracts in flight as well as when parked to create negative lift. Aircraft does not move when stationary.

Nice Cuda!   :clapping:
The funniest thing about this particular signature is that by the time you realize it doesn't say anything it's to late to stop reading it.

Hi Dave-
I'll do some looking on Google, I'm interested in the plane.

You said: Aircraft does not move when stationary.
I kind of figured that  :roflsmiley:

Great looking car! I love a black car (just as long as someone else ownes it), the gc's seem to be making their mark on the forum. Very cool that you were able to keep her after 22 years of what seems like alot of change. Not only do you have an awsome car, sounds like you have a pretty neat "job" also. I love nascar! Welcome to the site Dave. Nice car. Have you had 'er out for a wee honk on one of those raceways? The way the nose of that plane sits, it may have been Burt Rootin' who designed it. Sounds like you've got the trifecta thing going- E bodies, airplanes and race cars! I'm just plain envious.

"usraptr" = United States raptor - bird of prey = United States Bald Eagle.  FYI, somebody else thought of it first so I had to drop the "O" in raptor.
