Carb is shot!

Hey everyone, my carbs fuel plate is shot and sucking air. Im going to be replacing it, my car has a 68 440 from a sport fury. Previous owner said engine was rebuilt to stock specs. This car is a driver and will never see the track. All i want is the car to start and run like it should. By the way it has a stock shaker set up on it.  Thx Gus

 Sorry, my bad. Yes im looking for opinions! By the way the car is currently an auto trans, though a manual is in its future. Thx Gus

Got less money, take it apart and see if you can rebuild it with a carb kit.

If your carb is shot,

how about replacing it with an 850 Proform. Got more money? How about FAST EFI?

The holley 770 or 870  street  carb would work well with your setup,they are excellent carbs for the price.

I love my Proform 850. What carb do you have on there now?

If not proform go with a Holley 3310. :2thumbs:

I have been researching this relentlessly and both the holley and the proform seem like very good choices. It will surely be one of those. The current carb has been with the engine for almost 40 years, so it is time for some new stuff. Should i go with a 750 or 850? I also want to have an electric choke as i do take the occasional winter ride as long as no gravel is on the road. Now should i go with a vacuum secondary or mechanical. I dont even really understand the differences. I have a mechanic who does all the major stuff for me, he is reccommending the holley 750 with vacuum secondarys. Again this is no race car but i am not afraid to "blow the carbon out of em"! I just want the thing to perform the way it should and not embarrass me.

750 is plenty. I drive throughout the winter without an electric choke.  Vacuum secondaries are usually for automatic cars which I see you have now. Run the Holley 3310 (750 vac secondary), easy carb to tune.
