Some of you know that I am a real estate broker who in these times pretty much just work on foreclosed properties. I spend some of my day driving around and checking on homes that are in foreclosure. A few days ago I recieved an e-mail that stated:
This is a property that is being targeted by the US Marshal for seizure. Great care and diligence must be
taken to remain unobtrusive and inconspicuous in completing this assignment to ensure the pending case is
not jeopardized and to ensure the safety of the broker. Do not make contact with any occupants or
neighbors. So I go to this very large home . . over 4000 sq foot, built in 2005 to snap a few pictures so I can complete my assignment. I tried to be inconspicuous but it was difficult on this street as it was a dead end with only 5 large homes on it. Traffic was minimal and anyone traveling this street other than owners would stick out. Well I snapped a few pictures and a man came running out the front door yelling something. I already had my pictures and rolled up my window and left the area. Well . . . they chased me for over 2 hours. It was not a good scene as I was running red lights, pulling out in front of people trying to get away. Bad thing was . . I forgot my cell phone at home . . STUPID! Not only that, I was low on gas and at this point, I was not going to go far. About an hour into the chase, I realized that there was more than one car chasing me and a vehicle coming at me swerved into my lane and tried to run me off the road. I was able to go up on the curb as swerve to avoid them but that was when I realized I was in big trouble. I had no phone, was low on gas and running out of options. I went to 4 police stations looking for help and all were closed due to the holidays. I finally jumped a curb at a gas station, ran inside and told the poor girl to call 911. The police arrived and I told them my story and what I was doing and that these people that were still there are the gas station were chasing me and tried to run me off the road. But . . it was my word against theirs. I said fine, just make them leave so I can go home. I gave to police the phone number for the agency that placed the order for the report but being that it was Christmas Eve, everyone was gone. I was able to leave in peace and took some back roads home safely but I know the guy chasing me took pictures of the back of my car and surely has my licence plate number. So come to find out, they are attorneys and I have to assume . . dirty ones. Not much of a gun person but I now have a pump action shot gun at my front door.
I was pretty shaken up by the time I got home . . . had I not been about to run out of gas, I probably would of continued to loose these characters but I also think there was more than 2 cars chasing me. I am seriously considering getting a handgun and I think if I had one, I probably would of used it after they tried to run me off the road. Didn't sleep well that night and certainly has a couple drinks to try to calm me down. Scary times for 4C.
