R/T Engines-E-Bodies
« on: January 21, 2005 - 10:39:50 PM »
What were the factory engines available for R/T E-Bodies?  I know on B-Bodies R/T's only came with 440's or Hemi's.  Get me up to speed on E-bodies.  Thanks.  ;D

depends on the year:

70 R/T  383 4 bbl, 440-4 bbl, 440-6 pack, 426 hemi...340 cars are not R/T's in 1970

71 R/T 340 4 bbl, 383 4bbl, 440-6 pack, 426 hemi...No 440-4 bbl R/T's in 71, and NO ragtop R/T's either, all 71 Challenger ragtops were JH27's...largest engine available was a 383 4 bbl in a ragtop 71.

NO R/t's after 71..they were called rallyes from 72 on..and largest motor was a 360 in 74...340's in 72 and 73.

Can't say I recollect seeing a 340 in a E body in 72 or 73. If you say so, we will trust your word. But now I need to see one.

72 340 Challenger=1,267 72 340 Challenger rallye=5,012

There it is there, I wasn't debating the fact. Just can't recall seeing any. seems like all I ever encountered were 318's and 360's.

Awesome, thanks for the information.  As I suspected, it's a bit more complicated for the E-Bodies!  Thanks.

Now for 1970, the Cudas were available with a 340, as well as the other motors available in a R/T. In 71, the Cuda and Challenger R/t engine selection was the same....ie  no 440-4 bbl, but 340 4 bbl available. The T/A had the 340 6 pack in 70, but was a JH23J0B car, not an R/T.  AAR's were Cudas, thus the BS23J0B desigination.

Any 70 Challenger with a 340 will be a JH23 or JH27 or JH29 (SE) car...no JS cars. I cant ever remember seeing a JM or JL car, anyone else ever see one of them? I do remember seing a BL car..slant 6 column auto with fixed rear windows. What are the deputy cars coded as?

Ther were no BL, BM or JM,JL cars made. Deputy(coupes) E-Bodies were A93 coded on the fender tags for 1970 and 71
