    Thought I'd start a new thread since the Newbie Intro was getting so long.

    Here is tonight's update.  I've been getting the front frame rails cleaned up and ready to mount the Alterktion.  Pulling the bumpstops off left a few holes where the spot welds used to be.  I'm working to weld those up and grind them smooth.  I finished the passenger side tonight.  First I had to clean all the dirt out of the inside of the frame, then paint it with Eastwood's Inner Frame Coating.  The driver's side had a lot more dirt from mud dobbers and quite a bit more rust.  It even rusted through in one small place.  I'll fix that tomorrow.


    First two pics are the passenger all welded up and ground smooth.  Second two are passenger in the works.

    What are your plans for your pro-touring project? I'm also building a 71 Challenger PT car. Funny it's the same color originally as yours. Mine is now bare metal and on the rotisserie but it brings back memories seeing the burnt orange.

    What motor, trans, rear suspension, wheels, etc?

    Hey Wes,
    Yeah that's a pretty cool color.  I want to go with something brighter and bolder like plum crazy. :lol2:  I'd love to see some pics of your car, do you have a build thread?  I bet having it on the rotisserie is nice.

    The motor is a 400 block stroked to 470, built for street/road course, makes 600hp/tq.
    Trans is a beefed Viper T-56, Rear suspension will probably be RMS Streetlynx, front is Alterktion.
    Wheels will probably be 18x9 front, 18x12 rear, preferably forged.  Might go 19x12 rear due to tire size availability.

    I will take it out to all the open track days here in SoCal and wherever else we move to.  Between then, it'll be street driven on nice days as much as possible.  It'll get AC and leather and be used for long road trips as well.  That's the plan.

    Sorry no build thread on my 71. ( I really really need to). Actually I am not keeping the original color either. It will most likely be red or black. Right now I have it mini-tubbed with the back rails notched so I can tuck the rears and lower the ride height if I want without issues. I've got a new 6.1 Hemi for it, a Detroit Speed rear suspension quadralink kit which has a track/panhard bar, coil overs, etc. (actually for a 1st gen Camaro that I will modify), Fikse 3-piece/race black wheels with 19 x 335 rears and 18 x 275 fronts and SRT Challenger buckets and rear bench. I will be running a manual-either T56 Magnum, or possibly the new Legend or McLeod 5-speed if they ever really arrive for purchase. Front suspension will most likely be Alterkation but I've just learned that the Roadster Shop may be making their crossmember clip for E-bodies soon so that may change depending on availability and track width. Theirs is similar except it uses C6 Vette hubs, uprights and a splined sway bar but of course is about a grand more. (I don't really like the XV Motorsports front ride height-the only reason I'm not going with theirs and the fact they will not sell without their shocks)

    Anyway back to your thread....nice job  :2thumbs:. Keep us posted.

    Well, I haven't updated in a while because I haven't gotten very much done since last post.  I was hoping to have the car on the road by now,
    but designing a new cross brace for the transmission has turned out to be more difficult than expected.  My transmission guy, Geoff Gerko, seems to have
    a handle on it now and we should have this thing taken care of really soon.

    Here are some pics of the first brace he made.  He's making an even thicker stronger one now, and I'm just waiting on it.  Can't wait to get this thing wrapped up
    and move on to the floors.

    This is my first ever patch panel.  I'm proud of myself!  There was a lot of trial fitting and tweaking, probably 4 hours worth.  I know it's not pretty, but it's completely closed and solid and no rust.

    3rd pic is the underside.
