Atomic EFI By MSD

I just received my latest GoodGuys magazine and was pleased to see MSD jumping into the relm of extra easy installation EFI systems.  Go check out www.atomicefi.com
It's worth watching the video!  We need to know more on this product so I'm hoping MSD will chime in.

looks pretty easy. The self tuning stuff is getting pretty good with smarter software and widebands built in. Returnless makes the fuelline setup even easier. Only downside is still the $2000 pricetag. I just have a problem spending a couple grand for a throttle body injection.

Well my husband talked to msd tech and they told him the system would be available in 3 weeks.He was also told to use there billet dist with a lockout mode you set the inital timing and then the atomic efi computer would handle the spark and the fuel.Well 2k is alot but the fast efi  is about 2200.00 and with this system you get a free msd 6a box that is about 150.00 so it is a good deal and no return line needed from tank.He i s buying me this in march for anniversary so i cant wait to get it on my cuda.

I'm taking the jump as well.  Just food for thought here.....Are you going to replace your tank?

Does look nice, but have heard good stories about the PP Powerjection III, which IS available with returnless line routing.

Not sure if I'd want to be the guinea pig w/the MSD kit.  I'd wait until others have had good experience with it.

You get a free MSD 6a box or is that built-in the ECU?  I hate to have to mount that big, obtrusive box.

We mounted my msd6al box  under the battery tray you dont have any idea it is even there.

I'm a Fuel injection user.  The only thing I don't like about the MSD unit is that the computer is mounted  on top of the engine inside the throtttle body.  I had to deal with a 1981 Chrysler Imperial, in which Chrysler put the computer and modules, including the fuel pump, inside the air cleaner housing.  When the engine is shut off, all of the heat goes right to the top and the hood holds it in.  I found that all of the potting material was melting out of the containers and turning into goo.   

I still mount my computers inside the car with me. The MSD videos show a very simple setup with a few wires to hook up. I would love to try one if it was less than a grand.  If you already run a fuel injection throttle body or multi-port manifold, you can get a FAST conversion kit for aroung $850. The same thing with a Holley Avenger setup is about $1450.

no same tank for now i might go with the ricks stainless steel hot rod tank later down the road but they are 950.00 and can only afford somuch at a time my husband is building a 68 gto convertible to resell and then a 67 gto convertible he has.He is buying things for my cuda little by little but he said in about 5 years he is  going to re restore my cuda so the more he buys now the less he will have to deal with cash wise later.

Boy that MSD set-up looks easy in their video. I wonder why they want you to use their rubber hose instead of the original hard fuel line in the car??

Brad, I'll need someone to weld in that O2 sensor. Are you up for a road trip?   


I would have to think long and hard before I would spend that much $$$.

I was looking at picking up the FAST EZEFI system soon, but this may be another option to look into. I dont want a free system, but since MSD is a sponser - maybe a group buy could be an option?

I jumped on the 1st Edelbrock Pro-Flo system when it first cane out $2900.  After dealing with a Holley Projection that I could not tumne.  Edelbrocks bolted and with minimum hassle and I was driving the Power Tour the same year.  A year or two later, they came out with the Pro-Flo II which could be hooked to a laptop and log data. It was too much to spend another $1500 to convert so I'm still on the original and might switch to the FAST conversion kit.  Holley has also come out with their 3rd generation system that seems to work very well.

What I'm trying to say here is that never be the guinea pig and buy the first generation system. Let the car magazines and the MSD sponsored guys try it, race it, test it. They get it for almost nothing.  Evn the FAST system has had a revision in firmware already.

SDSEFI has a killer computer/ controller & it is completely tunable without a laptop , it has its own hand held tuner included , we used the Eddy intake predrilled for injectors & supplied with fuel rails , but still had to buy fuel pumps , regulators & throttle body & make up lines etc
