Front sway bar: Pointed up or pointed down?
« on: January 10, 2012 - 11:23:57 PM »
Ugh.

I actually read a thread about this a loooong time ago but forget the answer.

Which way do the front sway bars mount?

There is a slight vertical / Y axis curve on the ends. Question is... when installed, should the curve go up or down?

Definitely a d'oh! moment for me when I realized I had no way of telling after pulling it out of the car and changing the orientation of the bushings. :-)

I'm not sure I know the answer, but when you install it, only one way will have the ends of the bar parallel (or more parllel)  to the ground.

You should only need to mock it up next to the car to figure it out.

I've got a picture of mine that shows which way the bar was facing originally.  I'll have to look for it.  I'm sure it was possible that some cars had there's installed the wrong way.  It will work either way...it just fits better one way vers the other.

And that's what I remember from reading the original post way back when... There didn't seem to be a consensus. Lol.

I really need to get into the habit of photographic EVERYTHING with my phone before I take it apart. I'm usually pretty good about it, but this seemed so straight forward it never occurred to me. Lesson learned. Again. :-)

If you can find that pic Burdar, I'd appreciate it. Not only that, we can finally have a more definitive answer on this particular question. :-)

The bar crowns up.  That means the end of the bar points down.

That would seem to be the case.

I can actually make out the slight bend in the bar from that pic. Down it is.

Thanks, bud.
