Thank you Challenger III, I haven't done much the last 24 hours as work, small kids, and feeling worn out have hit me.. lol

I did buy some single stage PPG FC7 urethane at the jobbers yesterday along with a mask, and some stuff to fix the pinholes (all metal I think).  I've lately been reading out the wah wah on how to spray paint. I figure this first quart is going to be practice on the two trunk lids that I'm not needing..

Man, these two-stage paints can be scary! Mek, isocynates, all kinds of crap.. But i figure my degree in Environmental Health can maybe help me not kill myself!

Up next is to get her on the rotisserie and catch a good day and paint  her grey underneath. Although i am taking the rear end next week to be blasted and painted.

Small steps!

In line with my new 'spend at least one hour a day on grapey-car mentality' I cleaned up the transmission crossmember yesterday. Lookin' good!

You're probably already with the program, but buy and use a rated respirator when spraying current primers and paints. Isocyanates are nasty.  :2cents:

Yup, exercising caution! Can't be too careful nowadays. Probably glow in the dark anyway!

This evening was fairly productive. Pulled the K-member and got it out of the way. I re-painted the rusty trunk lid this afternoon in like 10 minutes and it looks better (i'm practicing on  this for when i  do the engine bay, and underbody. It feels good to have the project moving again. I did find some rust (nothing major) on a frame rail but it is just surface rust, but will need treating before i paint.

Trying not to get in a hurry, and really taking time to learn how to paint automotive paint. It is an art I guess.

Here are some pictures of this evenings adventures:

Yay, I can get to work in there now that the k-member is gone.

The rear end is on deck now for a good old fashioned blastin/paintin'. :)

My second attempt ever at painting automotive paint. Trunk was dirty, rusty and corroded. This paintin' thang gonna take some practice. Trying to get good enough to shoot engine bay, trunk, and cabin, and under her meself.. We shall see.

All in all, I'm  a happy doode.. But I will happier when my goal of the Challenger in paint and ready for mechanicals by the end of the year is met. God willing and the creek don't rise.

Stay Mopar my  friends!

I can't speak for your neck of the woods, but around here, if you were to go to a body shop and speak nicely to the man, telling him that you're trying to learn how to paint; he may just let you in the booth when a pro is doing his thing and there's no replacement for actually watching it done. Bring a spray suit with a hood.  Ask about the gun, viscosities, pressure at the gun, overlap percentages, gun triggering, rate of application and time between coats. Taking a few cold ones at the end of the day is seldom frowned upon and is a nice way to say- thanks. Good luck.

I'm working on it. whew. Taking a break and letting the spray gun cool off. All of this in the cab is hidden anyway... I'm happy!

Painted the engine bay too. Man the paint laid out good today. 1mm tip, 8 bars on pressure  with a cheap Harbor Freight touch-up gun.
