Sooooo, anyway.. been busy on the car. I'm trying to paint everything but the exterior sheet metal, as I want a professional to paint that. I pulled the wiring harness out yesterday and almost freaked out at the complexity, but I will figure it out. I went ahead and installed the wiper arms today, wiper assemblies, and the wiper motor.. I am happy with the hood and overall happy with the single stage paint. It's hot as hell and I am having to reduce it and use extra slow hardener. It was 103 in the shop today....

Tomorrow a guy is coming to give me an estimate on putting the vinyl top on. I am also getting my hood hinges back from blasting tomorrow as they were chromed thirty  years ago. I ain't paying 500.00 for a set of hood hinges. The chrome should be gone and I will paint them and hopefully put the hood on soon...

Then I have to buy a trunk lid... ow.

I need to hit the lottery....

Got the hood  on...

It is beginning to look like a car! Not only a car, but a badass E-Body! Anyway, I also got one door painted so i can hang it. Once the smoke clears I will go get some more pictures.

I'm basically painting everything but the exterior.. I went ahead and painted the roof real well for protection because I want the vinyl top back on. It is looking so much better!

So the drivers door  was stripped to bare metal and primed.. whew that was some work stripping.. anyway.. i shot the sides of the door today. It turned out really  well. i tried to feather it in a bit as the paint   you see on the top of the door (inside panel) is still the original purple.

Blended pretty good.

Almost have the  passenger door ready for priming. I sanded it to *almost* bare metal today..Whew.. Anyway.. This door was red from the factory?? Red paint keeps showing up under the factory purple!! Weird!!

By red I mean like someone  cleaned a red bit of paint and then sprayed purple. It isn't all over either, really the bottom of door on top of the  dip primers under the purple..

I have no idea... Just making a note..

I guess the doors were dipped.. actually only the passenger door has any red at all directly on the primer, and it's only on the bottom...

Does anyone know  if the line painting doors had mutliple guns???

Painted around on her rear... Gotta get some seam sealer for the trunk and a cursory hit with the paint on that... and  have been detailing the trunk lip area so it hopefully will look good...

Talked with the guy that will paint the exterior and he is fine with what i I'm doing.. so the car will continue to be put back together and he will mask everything off.

Hopefully I will get the taillights and chrome back on her rear today...

*fingers crossed and hoping the  paint drys*

I also patched a small pinhole in the drivers door, and treated the inside of the drivers door with a spray por-15 like product... hope that fixes that!

And there is a spray etching primer from SEM... all  I can say is wow. it is tough as nails.

Let's see...

Installed the Se rear window filler frame today, and used stainless... I remember  from taking it out how rusty the screws were...

I bondo-ed it in like it came from the factory... ran out mid-way through and went  and picked up more..its almost  ready for sanding..

I cleaned the taillight assemblies and cleaned up the original screws and nuts..

Put seam sealer down in trunk and rest of cab and painted it..

I'm gonna try to sand the  rear window filler in late, late tonight... hopefully my paint  will be dry....

Off to diner in the  1970 GTO...        :woo: :woo: :woo:

It's late and I am whipped.. but got the rear window insert mostly did...

It was a pita, I am tempted to just paint it as it will all be hidden under the top anyway... Don't know why I'm obsessed with it..

Brought the whole heater/ac unit box to town and my buddy is going to put a new heater coil and ac coil in there. His shop ain't cheap but he is best in town and his secretary did all the parts ordering for the chryco dealership for thirty years. She knows her stuff man!!

Ordered a front glass today.. I'm at work and getting some rest... had to come to work to get a day off!

I dunno Dutch.. really just trying to get some momentum goinng... judging by what everyone has been quoting for paint.. I'm trying to do 75% of the paint on my own. I'm really tired of having the garage full of parts that arent attached to the car. My paint guy will mask everything, and they do really good work. Basicallly all they will have to paint is the hood, outer doors, fenders and front and rear valence......

I've never done any of this before, but it sure feels good. I may take yoour advice though.... but I'm really wanting to get the windows back in...

But... maybe I will call my paint man and get the ball rolling..

I like the way you work.  I did exactly the same. first timer too.   but ... I didn`t assemble it before exterior paint.  Sure your paint guy could be master masker, but sometime in the future you will have to remove and reinstall parts, and that`s when you will see it was masked. Personally, I hate that, but if you don`t, there is no problem.  I hear you on having parts all over the place, but dude.... look at the size of your shop!! I`m sure you can find a place to store a headlamp or two...LOL
Also, I`m sure you don`t want the windshield in yet  :grinno:   It will be the last part I install and I`m glad.
It will be an awesome ride what ever route you take  :2thumbs:
