The conversions were authorized by Chrysler, whether the cars were done in house or not (like the wing cars) is irrelevant. The car (and a few others) are legit and were converted to look like 1972s as advertising for Chrysler. They supplied cars for the Mod Squad, Medical Center and one or two other shows which I can't remember off the top of my head.

This car has moved around and been for sale constantly over the last few years. It's never brought huge money.

Who can forget Chad Everett's Challenger Ragtop, loved looking at that car years before I got my own driver's license.  Found the quote below at: http://www.allpar.com/model/challenger.html

More homegrown customs include the handful of 1971 Challengers that got '72 noses and tails for Paramount Picture studios, after the demise of the convertibles from dealership floors in the 1971 season. Chad Everett always raced to the hospital just in the nick of time in a pretty '72 ragtop.

Kind of cool that one of these cars still exists.

The Medical Center car still exists too. It was for sale a little over 10 years ago.

And you can't forget there were a couple "72" cuda converts made for TV also, a blue one in the Brady Bunch that AFAIK isn't known to still exist, and Mannix's green one, which is restored and is displayed at shows from time to time.

This car sold last winter at b-j for somewhere in the $60s if memory serves me correctly. I believe seller is trying to roll it. Good luck with the $100k asking price!

What are you not understanding?  These are late production 71 cars that were converted to 72's BY THE FACTORY.  They are worth more as 72's then they would be if they were changed back into 71's.  They have been dressed as 72's for basically their entire existance.

When I started this thread, I had no idea that these cars where out there.  That is really the reason that I come to this forum, to learn about things like this and to have open discussions about them.  When I saw this car on Ebay, I looked at the picture, saw a 1972 front end and thought to my self that either me or the add was wrong.  I thought that I might ask someone who knows.  Here we are...

Tree Frog, I'm goin to make every effort to bring the 72 back this year.  If not, the 12 will have to suffice.  TinCuda, when it comes to Mopars, never say never!

So here's a link to a Mannix video I put up on Youtube.  The first part shows the rear of the Cuda convertible that was altered to be a 1972. Round tail lights!  Also included is the scene where Mannix wrecks his 1971 Cuda.  Ouch!  Warning! Contains graphic scenes of ebody metal damage.  May not be suitable for Cuda fans.
