Is this a 1971 or a misinformed 1972?
« on: January 13, 2012 - 10:15:02 PM »
I have see this car for sale on E-bay before.  He claims that it is a 1971 Challenger that is only 1 of 2 built with a 1972 nose and tail.  Is he for real or what?

Built for a TV show?  Does that mean that it didn't come from the factory with a 1972 front and nose?  If not, I could built one like that.  Would mine be real?

No, it did not come from the Factory that way...It's a waste of a good 71 Car too.  Usually it's the other way around...72,73,74 cars are made to look like 70/71 cars.

Brand new(late production) 71 converts were converted into 72's by the factory for the next TV season.

Well, either way.  A perfectly good 1971 converted to a 1972 is not worth close to the asking price of 100 grand.

Yeah, I guess it could be to the right buyer.  I kind of wrote that before I thought about it very much.

If it has documentation that it was a TV car then somebody with deep pockets will probably pony up a lot of bucks for it.

It still has a lot not going for it.  A more desirable year car turned into a lesser desirable year car, for a TV show that not a lot of people still remember, and it is a less popular color.

I guess that it could be priceless to the right person.

Too bad the seller wants so much for it.  Wonder what the seller paid for it?

Instead of putting at such a high price so nobody will buy it, why not put it at a more reasonable price so it can be sold and enjoyed?  It's been for sale for a bit now, must know the price is too high...
1972 Dodge Challenger Rallye 340, AT, Code TB3=Super Blue, SBD=8/17/1971.  Yes, a Rallye without the fender louvers from the factory because of the body side molding option.

The Factory did not make these "72" convertibles.  :2cents:
I asked Galen Govier.  :smokin:

The conversions were authorized by Chrysler, whether the cars were done in house or not (like the wing cars) is irrelevant. The car (and a few others) are legit and were converted to look like 1972s as advertising for Chrysler. They supplied cars for the Mod Squad, Medical Center and one or two other shows which I can't remember off the top of my head.

This car has moved around and been for sale constantly over the last few years. It's never brought huge money.
