News:
The conversions were authorized by Chrysler, whether the cars were done in house or not (like the wing cars) is irrelevant. The car (and a few others) are legit and were converted to look like 1972s as advertising for Chrysler. They supplied cars for the Mod Squad, Medical Center and one or two other shows which I can't remember off the top of my head. This car has moved around and been for sale constantly over the last few years. It's never brought huge money.
Who can forget Chad Everett's Challenger Ragtop, loved looking at that car years before I got my own driver's license.
And you can't forget there were a couple "72" cuda converts made for TV also, a blue one in the Brady Bunch that AFAIK isn't known to still exist, and Mannix's green one, which is restored and is displayed at shows from time to time.
Tree Frog, I have the SAME car without the fancy VIN for only 1/10th the price. I WIN!!! HAHAHA!
What are you not understanding? These are late production 71 cars that were converted to 72's BY THE FACTORY. They are worth more as 72's then they would be if they were changed back into 71's. They have been dressed as 72's for basically their entire existance.
