New guy from Doylestown PA
« on: January 14, 2012 - 10:50:55 AM »
Hey guys just a quick hello!

My name is Greg and I recently picked up a 73 Challenger. The car was an original 340 4 speed car but the 340 has been replaced with a 69 440 with 906 heads and a 6 pack. It's still has a 4 speed with a Pistol Grip shifter and it also has an 8-3/4 rear with 4:10 gears. I also like the fact that it has power steering and power disc brakes.

I bought the car from the son of the original owner. The original owner died and left the car to his son who is a Harley guy and had no need for an old car.

Before the original owner died he had the bodywork done, the car painted, and re-did the motor. Then he got cancer and the car was stored for 3-4 years until he died. When I got it, it fired right up but naturally it needs a good tune up and the 3 carbs need rebuilding after sitting for so long.

I've been spending my winter replacing fluids, cleaning it up, and replacing things like the old carpet, replacing the brakes at all 4 corners, and detailing the engine compartment.

I'm new to E body Mopars, but not Musclecars. Over the years I've owned 2 GTO's, 3 Chevelles, a 70 Camaro, a 442, a 67 Mustang Fastback, and a 71 340 Duster.

For a short while after getting married and having kids, I got involved in 5.0 Mustangs because I was not able to afford a Musclecar but now at 43 I am back and back to stay.

My wife who has ALWAYS loved the Mopar Musclecars encouraged me to find a Mopar instead of another Chevelle. I got lucky and found my Challenger and really love the car. I can't wait for spring to get her finished and on the road.

I'm looking forward to making friends and learning as much as possible about my new Mopar Musclecar.

Here she is:

Thanks! I'm not in love with the blacked out bumpers or trim but it will have to do for now. I bought the car because the body, floors, and frame are all solid. The 440 6 pack helped too!

I also HATE the Centerline wheels. Once the engine is running and the brakes are replaced I will be swapping out those Centerlines for a set of 15" Magnum 500's with BF Goodrich Radial T/A's. I also want to add the stripe that runs along the top of the fender to the middle of the 1/4 panel.

Next winter I'll tackle the blacked out bumpers and trim.

Welcome! Nice looking ride!  :2thumbs:
I'd take a look at Firestones over the BFG's . I've found the BFG's turn hard as hockey pucks after the first 6 months to a year. I have the Firestones and am quite happy with them for the money. :2cents:
Lets see some pictures of the engine and interiour!

Greetings, and welcome to the Board.  I grew up near Doylestown, in Willow Grove (Dad was in the Navy).  My mom used to work at Doylestown Hospital.

Small world.

Welcome,  nice ride.  I'm down the road from you in Warwick.  Quite a few Mopar's right around here that I go to cruise nights with.  I'm sure we'll meet sooner or later.  If you need any help with anything let me know.   I have a 73 with a six pack also.  Once you get it tuned in correctly you'll love it.

Very nice car, in great shape too. I agree with you on the wheels. That car would look great with a set of 15 inch rallye wheels. John.

 Welcome, Greg!  Looks real nice!

I wonder if the black bumpers would look good body color, would match better and give it a more modern look.  Also, if that's the route you take, perhaps a resto mod look might be cool, meaning rims other than stock rims.

Anyway, your car, do what works for you, looks fast!

Welcome to the site! Nice car. You may want to consider going to a 17" wheel for the brake and tire choices they give you. Having a 440-6 has a way of making brakes important, I've found. Enjoy!
