Restoring grill on '73 cuda
« on: January 18, 2012 - 12:56:47 PM »
Hi all,
I'm about to start restoring the grill on my '73 cuda... I'm getting the paint from www.totallyautoinc.com, dark argent and satin black

What's the best way to strip off the old paint and what primer should I use ?

Thanks !

Is it original paint? I found it best to hand sand, then put a sealer coat over it. I
tried so chemicals and didn't like what it was gonna do to the grill, so I stopped.
If I cant fix it, it's broke

It looks like the original paint, under the coat of black that is currently on there... I'm sure it's a replacement. But the crappy black is flaking off and showing blue underneath. The car is rallye red...

On my 74 Barracuda I bought the paint from Totally auto also but went with the light argent, I had the grill stripped at a place that does all types of automotive stripping/ paint removal. They used plastic media with very low pressure and it cleaned up nice. John.
