I just think TCI's hp ratings are way out of line, and when they can't even tell you what is in them, somethings up.  They are probably a good street tranny, but as soon as you start abusing them(and yes a well built tranny can handle ABUSE), and launching at the track with slicks, and high stalls, they don't last long.

Just look at the price of their full race transbrake tranny....$1750.....  Any prices I've got for a build that will handle a trans brake and the ABUSE that goes with it, are $2800 and up.

I also don't like the production/assembly line sort of feel you get with them. I like the trannies that are built on a customer to customer basis, and built by people that have learnt from experience.

In the end I think the higher price makes more sense, better parts do cost more money...

John Cope and John Vinson at the two links I posted earlier, 90% of the time, they will answer the phone and they are the owner/builder. :2thumbs:

Yep, I've e-mailed both already.  Heard back from Cope, but not Vinson yet.

I actually got another e-mail from TCI tech, because I had asked about the sprag, planetary, etc.  He said they use a 9 clutch planetary???? I am pretty sure they don't even make such a thing.  Isn't 5 or 6 about it.

I do like the price, but seems fishy.  I hate being on a budget. :walkaway:

Well we've probably got 4 more months of winter here, and another month or so of rain to wash all the salt of the roads, so no shortage of time.

I probably would be fine with a $1200 rebuild the way the car is setup now...2.73 gears..open carrier...wide street tires that just keep spinning and spinning...    but I know as soon as I put a spool, 3.91's, sticky tires...and some traction :working:

if your happy with the local boy, i would go with him. you won't like a transbrake valvebody on the street tho. i would suggest a fully manual with engine braking from turbo action. you won't need the linkage with this one.

Well...I almost made a horrible mistake today and ordered a TCI tranny....but...then I woke up.   I think I found a better way to do it, order the parts from Cope, and build it myself.  This would save me a bundle, especially with the cost of shipping a tranny into Canada.

:roflsmiley: Showing TCI's "out of touch with reality" with people answering tech questions that aren't tech people. No such thing as a 9 clutch planetary. The clutches have nothing to do with the planetary count any way. probably talking about 4 clutches in the forward drum and 5 in the direct drum (9) has nothing to do with the planetary's though.

Yep,  I know about those.   I think the best thing for me to do , is drop my tranny, and have a look to see what is and isn't inside, and go from there. There is a chance it may have a 4 gear/pinion platary, which would save me a few bucks.  I'm still debating on whether or not to rebuild it myself.  Only thing is some of the stuff some builders do like polishing certain parts, or different case/oiling mods, not sure how easy that is to do yourself.

And it's still a little suprising at what different builders figure is needed and isn't needed.  Which is why I'm leaning to doing it myself, then I can just spend the difference on a few extra better parts.

Those Max Wedge cars I posted earlier have 3 gear planets in them so don't worry about too much.
