Update Project Bring 70 Challenger Back to the Future
« on: January 19, 2012 - 04:55:27 PM »
I purchased the 70 Challenger on 11/13/2004 and over 7 years later, work has finally begun.  :jumping:

Originally a 318, 3-speed auto car, a previous owner dressed it cosmetically as a T/A with a bolt on hood scoop and body decals and trunk spoiler.

My Goal:

Engine: 3rd gen Hemi
Front suspension: Alterkation
Rear Suspension: RMS Street Lynx
Transmission: Undecided current thoughts 5-6 speed manual Keisler quoted over 6k for a complete auto to manual swap.  I would Really like to gue a Nag-1 5-speed auto but I understand It's a PITA to get set up.
Interior: LX seats, custome dash, Speedline guages, custom console
Wheels:most likely  18-inch 5-spoke machined lip with silver paint

Paint:opinions welcomed here!  Narrowed down to 2 colors first: Intense Blue code PB3
Second and the one I am leaning towards is Copperhead Metallic see this link:
http://staceydavid.com/projects/copperhead
Also powdercoat the underside, engine compartment and trunk same color

Body: Install R/T hood, T/A trunk spoiler with the center of the hood painted in a Silver as well as the T/A Spoiler in Silver with a Rumble Bee Stripe in Silver. The silver could either be light with the Blude paint or Dark with the CopperHead Met paint, Would like to get someone to PhotoShop this Idea any Takers?

I am anticipating this project will take 4-5 years.

This years Project: Stage 1: Stripping the car and Media blasting
Stage 2: Body work and chassis stiffening and primered

Here are some Pics:

Now I have to get rid of the parts I will not be reusing:

K-Member Assembly
RearEnd
Console
Engine
Transmission
Front Fenders (Fiberglass)
Flat Hood (w/bolt on T/A scoop)
other odds and ends

Any interest PM me, I really do not want to send the stuff to a scrapyard, but I have no room to store it.

It looks like a solid project. Good luck with it. It would have killed me to have to wait 7 years before I dug into it.   :pullinghair:

I am digging that copperhead color.  If you want my two cents, that color would look awesome!

Hope you have done a workup of the estimated parts & outside labor costs to determine just how much you will be into the car. Just saying I have seen a lot of guys start these projects without focusing on the complete picture. Does look like a good project.

Damn, I skipped the sentence that mentioned the car's original options and saw the pic - thought you were doing it to a real T/A.  :22yikes: hahaha

Are you planning on doing all the work yourself or farming it out?

Regarding the colour, I'd vote for the Blue - IMO, gold, especially such a strong gold, is very difficult to look at. :bigshades: Definitely a love it or completely hate it colour.

Best of luck with the build mate.

Interseted in the K-Frame assembly! My buddy Darcy sent you a PM. He has a buddy that lives close to you that could pick it up?

I created am Excel spreadsheet that I input everything I buy or have done for the build. Set it up to auto total everything

Damn, I skipped the sentence that mentioned the car's original options and saw the pic - thought you were doing it to a real T/A.  :22yikes: hahaha   I would go all original if it was a real T/A

Are you planning on doing all the work yourself or farming it out?

I intend on doing all the drivetrain, wiring, no welding or body experience so that will be farmed out, I may try and do the interior myself.

Regarding the colour, I'd vote for the Blue - IMO, gold, especially such a strong gold, is very difficult to look at. :bigshades: Definitely a love it or completely hate it colour. I want to noticed where ever I take the car

I got his PM and will respond, I have member of a local club that expressed interest in some of the parts, He is coming by Monday to take a look. If he passes Darcy gets dibbs

Sounds awesome! I hope you have your money ready. I dove in wanting to upgrade just about evrything and holy s#$t , I am in deep!
Also I tried the seats out of our 08 charger in my cuda and unless you are 5`4" they are too bulky. test fit a crappy one from a scrap yard before you buy nice ones!  Have fun

I told my wife if I wait till I have the money, the car will never be started on much less built. Kinda like waiting to have a baby until you can afford one. I have estimated the cost of the build and whoa the wife is not happy with the number. Did you take any pics of the Charger seat installed? I was going to the same thing taking the drivers seat out of my wifes 06 Charger R/T w/R/T pkg (really like the seats). I'm 6'4" and what you are saying is troublesome to me.

Never tell the wife how much auto parts and restoration really costs!! I saw the tee-shirt saying that at the last gun-show I went to.  If I would have told my wife Im almost 30,000 , (total car to parts) into mine and have a ways to go 5 yrs ago she would have never let it get near the house.

Sorry I did not take pics of the seats in the cuda and at 6 foot tall I was feeling large. at 6`4" you better price a sunroof L.O.L.  I am in love with the charger seats ( we have the srt stlye ) but just too bulky for e-body.
