Headers for 70 Cuda - 440 Engine

Hello, this subject had probably already been discussed. However, please assist. I need to purchase headers for my 70 Cuda. The engine is a 440. I have been told that TTI headers are the ones to purchase but at $700 dollars, this seems expensive. Should I bite the bullet and purchase the TTI headers or can you recommend another brand of headers.

I bought the bullet and got TTI headers.  If I had to do again, I would have bought TTI headers.  That's not a typo.  They are that good.  I had so much trouble with my old headers.  I had to buy 2 sets of spark plug wires to get enough ends so wires wouldn't lay against the pipes.  The TTI bolted right up with no problems.

Same here, I purchased my 70 Cuda in 1976 while I was a senior in High School. This was my first car and I purchased for $1,800 ($500 down and $100 a month until paid off). I came up with my screen name while I was still married and it was because I was thinking what was more important. LOL.

I threw a Rod Bearing in 1984 and my Cuda has sat for all these years. I am looking forward to getting it back on the road again, I don't mind spending the money but I want to make wise choices. Both of my daughters are also looking forward to driving it. My buddy has a 70 Cuda (originally had a 383) with a 426 Cross Ram. He took me for a ride a few weeks ago and after that , I knew I had to get mine on the road.

It has been a long time since I have worked on my car so I am going to have a lot of questions. I do appreciate the assistance.

TTI all the way.  Your car has waited this long to come back to life, if you need to wait another few months to get the TTI's I think it would be worth it.     Good luck!

ASK ABOUT EVERYTHING BEFORE YOU BUY ANYTHING !!!

I would have been a lot better off if I would have just asked here first with a lot of things.  There are a lot of smarter guys on here then me but I will help all that I can.

I bought my car back in 1986 for 1500 bucks.  That was all the money that I had saved up, to the penny, from working at Burger King in high school.  I payed for covered storage with a cement floor for 15 or so years while I was in school and starting my career.  Mine was a 383-4 car when born and it had a 440-4 in it when I bought the car.  I just got my 440, 512 with a six pack stroker now, installed.

Do TTI headers clear the steering box and torsion bar on the left side of engine? My 440,originally a 318 came fitted with Headman ceramic coated ones.
Great on the motorway (freeway) and good smooth roads but knock on uneven road surfaces.

My hedmans fit great, 78038 ceramic coated $350. BUT, not everybody seems to have the same experience as me. I think the pipe bending may not be consistent.

I too have Heddman Headers on my 440 and I didn't have any issues. Well... aside from needing to switch to a compact starter which I was going to do anyway. :-)
